LIVE: Japan coastline after 7.4 earthquake strikes
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 struck off the northeastern coast of Japan, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. It warned of a tsunami as high as 3 meters in Iwate, Aomori & Hokkaido prefecturs.

77 years ago—on April 13, 1949—a deep M6.7 earthquake shook up western Washington. Photographs from the Washington State Archives show some of the damage to Olympia. Similar earthquakes struck again in 1965 & 2001, and we are likely to see another in the next few decades: pnsn.org/education/pn...

On this day in 1964, the second-largest earthquake ever recorded struck the Prince William Sound region of Alaska. This magnitude 9.2 earthquake radically transformed Alaska and our understanding of plate tectonics, tsunami generation, and earthquakes.

March 11 marks the 15th anniversary of the 3rd-largest seismic event ever recorded, the magnitude 9.1 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Recovery from this devastating event is still ongoing. Research into ways to make our society more resilient to nature's unpredictability continues.

Happy #FieldworkFriday! Site DREAM is, well... exactly that, a dream. Stehekin although hard to get to, only accessible by ferry, is beautiful no matter the season. With less than a day to work we went into the dark of night & made a final check in the morning after a fresh snow.
