I wrote about what's *actually* gone on in Brazil the past few years.
What angers Jordan, Musk et al isn't Brazil's laws, it's a system they canât controlâone that actively defends the democracy it was set up to protect.

The Judiciary Committee Chair seems to forget how laws work. Brazil can regulate techâor any other industryâhowever it likes.
Like all of Jim Jordan's insane investigations, tho, he's not actually concerned w making a strong case. The accusation is enough to whip his supporters into a froth.

New Report Reveals the Extent of the Brazilian Censorship Regime's Threat to American Free Speech April 1, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. â Today, the House Judiciary Committee released an interim staff report titled "The Attack on Free Speech Abroad: The Case of Brazil Part III." The report details new evidence discovered by the Committee proving that Brazil's censorship regime targets speech within the United States and forces American social media companies to decide between complying with its censorship demands or face lawfare and cease operations in the country. In 2024, the Committee issued reports detailing how Brazilian authorities ordered American social media companies X and Rumble to suspend or remove popular accounts and other content that expresses views disfavored by the Brazilian governmentâincluding speech by American users. New nonpublic documents obtained by the Committee show that Brazil's censorship regime, led by Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, regularly targets speech within the United States by: Issuing global removal orders; Partnering with censors around the world; and Removing legal liability protections for social media platforms.
Brazil is trouncing the "free speech" warriors trying to meddle in the country's upcoming electionâthey just banned Trump admin shitplomat Darren Beattie from entering the countryâyet Jim Jordan's still trying to make fetch happen and avenge his BFF Elon đ 1/
I watch it whenever I need a lil pick me up
Then, too
Happy one year anniversary of this moment to all who celebrate đđťââď¸
As @ninajankowicz.com writes, Brazil's 1988 Constitution "was drafted as an explicit 'never again' to authoritarianism, with clauses restoring judicial safeguards and ironclad separation of powers."
If Americans are brave, resolute, & lucky, we will have a key opportunity to enact reforms in 2029.
Needed my wine for this one đ

And with that thinking we'll lose democracy entirely. Chin up! Good things are happening.
Glad Congress is catching up đ

I wrote about why this report is not business as usual in the current political moment
open.substack.com/pub/wicziped...
ha, the latter
I have a personal policy that if they cross the line into direct misogyny/racism/harassment that I send screenshots to their management informing them of what their employees are doing under their banner
I understood!
Itâs been happening for a while but I feel like I get into really tedious arguments and see insane stuff from dudes weekly these days. For example⌠(name and employer blocked bc this one is not my fight)
I really hope some enterprising PhD student examines a phenomenon that has been rapidly expanding since November 2024 or so: Men Showing their Whole Ass on LinkedIn.
The amount of men happily posting misogynistic, conspiratorial garbage under their employersâ brands is truly staggering.
To be fair, the UK has done a lot in this space. The FAC just wants to make sure they keep doing it.
If you think this work is important, please make a tax deductible donation to @americansunlight.org. We have been working as volunteers for a year, and research and advocacy in this space is only getting more costly.

Thanks for keeping the sunlight shining âď¸
I'm also encouraged the report advocates for continued UK leadership in this space, particularly as the US retreats.
You can watch the hearing I participated in here: parliamentlive.tv/event/index/...
And read my written submission here: committees.parliament.uk/writtenevide...
This sends a dangerous signal that countering disinfois a partisan issue, not a national security imperative. I'm glad the report highlights the need for the UK to "stand up for those countering disinformation, wherever in the world it occurs."
Critically, I told the Committee that while adversaries like Russia have upgraded their toolkit, the United States has unilaterally disarmed. Under the Trump administration, the US governmentâs foreign interference response was gutted, and disinformation researchers have been maligned and harassed.
I also highlighted how Russia changed its operations to target LLMs, pumping out millions of articles a year launder Kremlin narratives into AI training data. This industrialâscale information warfare infects discourse from the moment a user queries an LLM.

In my evidence, I walked MPs through @benmshultz.net's research on a Russian network of more than 1,100 likelyâautomated accounts, responsible for over 11 million posts in a year on Ukraine, Gaza, and the costâofâliving crisis in the US and UK.

Today, the UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee released a new report on foreign disinfo as âthe new warfare," with evidence from me & @americansunlight.org cited throughout.
It's gratifying to see a government take this threat seriously.

Ugh⌠thanks for the heads up!
I'm in Brazil and Darren Beattieâwhite supremacist shitplomatâis not.
I've been exploring why Brazil fights back against wannabe authoritarians like Beattie and Elon Musk, and how, against the odds, it wins.

No, @washingtonpost.com Editorial Board, I remember when conservatives **lied** that the board would be a Ministry of Truth, when its founding documents prove that it was set up to *protect* fundamental rights while responding to disinfo.
Glad I cancelled my subscription months ago.
