What I saw on FB was fans upset the web shop sold out of CDs so quickly and Martin reassuring them it would be available in shops. This seemed pretty obtuse to me, as surely he realized it was the exclusive bonus disc they wanted and were disappointed they couldn't get?

That's an unfair characterization, don't you think? I ordered the CD from the online shop because I wanted the exclusive bonus disc. Otherwise I would just buy it locally on release day. Martin Kelly surely understands what the fans wanted here, and his FB response omitting any mention of it is odd?
