Investigating these forts origins and any relationship with stock grazing Vs. cropping.

I am so fascinated by this...

I just keep asking myself why, just why did they do it.

Novice here but, I always assumed the "Iron Age" is roughly recognised as from 1200 BC or so onwards.

Raises one giant question in my mind, did Iron working begin in Africa? And did the tech driving it "travel" out of Africa on the backs of traders?
