Oh, and the reason you see these higher ranking people with so many medals all over their chest and not the lower ranks? Many of the medals/awards are rank restricted to (insert rank here) and above, so lower ranks CAN'T be awarded them (or by regulation SHOULDN'T be... I disproved THAT one).
Yep. For the 4 months I was deployed in Saudi with the unit, we did one actual thing; clean up the mess the Army created when they shot a hellfire missile into the ammo storage dump. That's it. But all the higher ups wrote themselves the highest awards they could get away with for doing nothing.
Something that many to decry which I find amusing since the number of military individuals that wrote their own medals and awards is simply too large to pin an exact number.
I know every E-6 and above in my unit wrote themselves Bronze Star awards or higher during Desert Shield that were approved.
I can respect those like AOC who got elected and actually tried to do right.
For all the failure, they succeeded in shining the spotlight on people like N. Pelosi who blocked the insider trading bill's AOC kept putting forward. Age wasn't the only reason Pelosi decided to get out.
