Listen, every time that man spoke on that show, I had a FLASHBACK! My ma definitely attended the same parenting classes.
May 12! Vidiots!
Vidiots Founding Member @alexwinter.com is hosting a screening of the erotic neo-noir classic AFTER DARK, MY SWEET.
Iβll be moderating a Q&A after the film with star Jason Patric.
In my opinion, this is THE great noir of the β90s.

Things that make me want to break shit: 1)asking a bookseller abt a debut by a Black author, having them say, "that sounds amazing" after looking it up but they don't order any copies to stock; 2) talking to a bookseller who knows abt the title and STILL didn't ensure any are on hand for release day
That quote is from @tobiasbuckell.bsky.social ! I always share it whenever and wherever I can.
Spreading the word, support union workers at ProPublica.

YEAR OF THE MER Mega-Thread since we're a couple weeks out and I kind of feel like throwing up.
Book 1 of 2 is out on April 7!
Available in the US and CAN from Saga: bookshop.org/p/books/year...
And in the UK and wherever else they distribute in English from Titan: titanbooks.com/72438-year-o...
End of Book 1 is a terrible place to stop. At least start the second before pausing. And in this world, EVERYONE gets that they deserve. Every, last, bit of it.
It has a purpose and you're going to like the bloody revenge it kicks off.
I won't lie it took me a minute but once all the set pieces and knowledge threads were in place and I realized what ot was building to I was all-in
Daughter of the Blood (Book 1)
Heir to the Shadows (Book 2)
Queen of the Darkness (Book 3)
It's non-linear af and a total wold drop on start.
That pull quote mischaracterizes what Kayleigh Donaldson was talking about in her article. She was referring to DJs as a predecessor influence on the tropes that make up the subgenre now known as romantasy
Im so glad they found the perfect way to translate that moment onto screen! Damn near made me cry
for the record, IMO anyone who's read the core trilogy & still labels the DJs as "romantasy" needs long-term psychotherapy.
I hate that label being applied willy-nilly, it's reductive & misleading af.
That's how pearl-cluthers end up reading dark fantasy and freaking the hell out, then complaining
In an AB built world, "romance" is the equivalent of a character pivot point ...and usually utter mayhem and extinction-level events follow after like a unhinged horseman of the apocalypse. These are true dark fantasies where you pay in blood for every slice of happy-ever-after(for now). It's GREAT
I'm a diehard fan of the Dark Jewels series. It starts with a mega-trilogy then spins out into the past and future following standout characters, time periods , and/or bloodlines
