One of our gliders made the cover of the new Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) Data Toolbox! 🌊 Ocean observations, from satellites to gliders, provide the evidence needed for effective MSP. Learn how stronger ocean data supports sustainable governance: shorturl.at/Z4Kkh 📸: Nicolas Winkler
OTN was proud to take part in the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Expo, showcasing how our global tracking tools support the UN Ocean Decade. Thanks to Cass & Dan for representing, and to @dalhousie.bsky.social's Office of Sustainability for hosting! 🌊
The 2026 spring bloom mission is underway! 🌊 One of our Slocum gliders was deployed in February to monitor the NW Atlantic phytoplankton bloom. Working with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, we’re maintaining continuous glider coverage to capture this short but critical event. 📸: Melany Belzile, DFO/BIO
Through our equipment loaner program, we’re supporting Arctic char monitoring in Kangirsuk, Nunavik—helping inform subsistence fisheries management for the Anguvigaq.

APRIL STUDY HALL SCHEDULE! 🗓️
Do you have questions about aquatic telemetry, spatial ecology, statistics or programming? Join OTN’s study hall on Thursdays to problem solve with the OTN data team and peers from across the globe!
See you there! oceantrackingnetwork.org/study-hall/
Thrilled to support an @nsccofficial.bsky.social OTEC capstone team (Brendan, Lara & Michael) in developing a deployable recovery line for OTN's BlueROVs. They achieved 3/3 successful mock recoveries (to 30 m) during field testing in the Halifax Harbour. Excited for their Tech Showcase on March 27!
📣 REMINDER: OTN's data team is unavailable to host study hall today, so we have to cancel it. Save your questions for next week!
In late Feb, Jon, Dan, and Dheemanth from OTN’s data team headed to Sarnia, ON for the 2026 @glatos-fish.bsky.social meeting. They led workshops on Intro to R and Acoustic Telemetry and loved connecting with the broader network in person. Excited for more collaborations and meetings this year!
Scientists are turning southern elephant seals into oceanographers 🦭 Tagged seals collect ocean data from the Southern Ocean. Our data team supports this work w/ open-source pipelines that integrate animal-borne sensor data into global databases like @obis.org.

Ellis, OTN’s glider data programmer, recently gave a group of NSCC students a tour of our workspace at COVE. The crew got an up-close look at the gliders they’re helping develop piloting assistance software for. We love being able to support and enhance student learning with experiences like this!💡🧑💻
We’re thrilled to be recognized as an endorsed project of the @unoceandecade.bsky.social 🌊
We’re equally proud to see Apoqnmatulti’k highlighted as an example of the collaborative work we’re advancing alongside partners. Learn more:

We welcomed three new nodes in 2025:
💙 Riverine Aquatic Fish Tracking (RAFT) Network
💙 Integrated Tracking of Animals in the Gulf (iTAG) Network
💙 North Pacific Acoustic Telemetry (NPAcT) Network
By joining OTN, they will now receive detections from all compatible nodes worldwide. Welcome! 🎉
Due to a scheduling conflict, OTN's data team is unable to host today's study hall. Come back next week to ask telemetry questions and help problem solve together!
OTN joined 1,300+ ArcticNet 2025 participants in Calgary, hosting a panel on Arctic animal tracking. Discussions covered community-led projects, co-design, and evolving tracking tech to support science, management & Arctic communities. Thanks to all who joined!
Keeping our ocean robots safe in busy waters 🌊🤖 Our Slocum gliders travel in major shipping areas, so OTN staff built a tool to limit surface time outside safe zones. It's already helping gliders navigate high-traffic areas safely. Glider and data teamwork in action! 📸: N. Winkler
