This is hilarious because I did Belfast - Cork and back via Dublin in November and I assumed I had to pay for the Luas because I didn’t trust this country to have such a thing set up 🫣
Oh! I will look for it - it's just that every time I've looked at the one on the left it strikes me how much it looks like a rune stone so I have to wonder
I was actually showing some of these inscriptions and the Celtiberian bronze animals to my class a few weeks ago - it may be a dumb question given the separation of dates, but has anyone made any observation to the similarity between this and rune stones?

The Manuscript of the Week is RIA MS 23 P 26, the Book of Fenagh. This 16th C manuscript is the work of a skilled scribe, on good quality vellum, and contains both prose and verse. The writing is in double columns and some of the capitals are filled in with red pigment.

The leather cover is both a rarity and a joy.
We are pleased and excited to be sponsoring the following sessions (and a round table) at @imc-leeds.bsky.social this summer, some co-sponsored/organised with @networknorse.bsky.social!
For the weekend that's in it, why not read a Life of St Brigid, or, Betha Brigte. An Leabhar Breac (RIA MS 23 P 16) contains a copy of the Life on starting on p. 61. You can see the "incipit" (Latin for "beginning") outlined in red pigment here, with Brigte spilling over from one line onto another.
Vibrant mural featuring a woman's face with long red hair flowing like flames. Her blue eyes, delicate features, and green leaves covering part of her face add a mystical aura. Small blue and white flowers are interwoven in her hair, set against a backdrop of vivid green and orange hues.
How Brigit continues to inspire poets, writers and artists 🎨

Have left Academia.edu and encourage others to do the same. Not worth it anymore but will miss the analytics.
There's a new resource available here: celtichagiography.org/bibliography/ It is a running bibliography of publications focused on the saints in Ireland, Scotland, Man, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, and 'Celtic' saints on the continent. While a work in progress, currently there are 500 publications

Good mail day
Recently I published this article in Breifne so I went to visit Rahan Castle (McSwyne’s castle) and Ballysaggart Friary (sadly inaccessible) to actually see them in person 😅

Incredible late medieval wall and ceiling paintings at the abbey (or Cistercian cell) on Clare Island, Mayo
Honestly I have no idea, maybe this is a complete outlier, but kind of similar to runes and ogam in the same manuscript
This is a tangential question out of ignorance but has there ever been a comparison of Norse inscriptions in ogam and Irish in Anglo-Saxon runes? Maybe there aren't even many examples of the latter but for some reason I'm reminded of this
love working from home so my cat can pull out all the sticky notes I'm putting in a book with his teeth and throw them on the floor
I haven’t actually posted wee Colm in a long time but he remains as judgmental as always
I made a Celtic Studies starter pack, for anyone interested! I’m sure it’s not complete but it’s a start. If you want to be added (or removed!) let me know.

I can literally never remember if my cat was born June 25 or 28, this is a great reason to pick the 25th LOL
Happy to say that I graduated with my PhD yesterday and the university chose to highlight my work! With thanks to my supervisors and my partner for their unwavering support.
