Hell yeah!

Yes, I recognize the real issue here is wading into podcast comments on Spotify.

I am in the comments of an Indicator episode on Spotify fighting this same fight over people who are just ignoring the entire contents of the episode on investor owned housing.

The episode is 9 minutes long! Shouldn’t be hard to take it all in!

Yeah, nobody likes being told that the poem starts with communists. They prefer to skip that line so they can imagine that such a thing would only start with a group they in fact like, totally missing the point of the poem.

And with no guarantees it works. We will have to see if he follows through and how Hungary responds. The winning is just the first step (to your point).

People ignore that while Magyar may be right wing he is explicitly running on “fuck these dudes, fire them into the sun” NOT “return to normal”. If you want me to rally behind someone whose policies suck they need just as much burn these mfs energy, not mealy mouthed reach across the aisle pablum.

Very fair. Not saying there’s no value in it when your job validates the prices. But as a fan just trying to be semi sophisticated? Brutal. The free game summaries turned into pablum. Checking an “analytics” summary and getting TACKLE counts?? The subs for anything else got way pricier.

I was an AVID PFF reader as a middle schooler in the late aughts early 2010s. Every single article. Got a paid sub as a birthday gift and maintained it for a few years. Haven’t touched the site in almost 10 years now as it became an insanely expensive walled garden of fantasy/betting slop.

the thing about our current moment is that yes, the anti-AI and anti-big tech people are getting very reactive nowadays - but have you seen what they’re *reacting* to?

Paging @samsanders.bsky.social, which guest had the (extremely correct) take that every Beatles song but Hey Jude is better sung by a Black person?

Quince’s Best-Kept Secret Isn’t Its Cheap Cashmere and Couches The online apparel retailer has become a $10 billion-plus e-commerce giant by mastering the art of the supply chain.

The retailer I get the most questions about from friends and readers is Quince, and it's not close. It carries everything from cashmere sweaters to American-made sofas to Dom Perignon champagne, most of it super cheap. I finally wrote about what Quince is up to. 🎁: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Happy Tax Day folks. As I pointed out here, the technical arguments about having free tax filing is over. Direct File proved it. What we are seeing now is just rent-seekers bribing policymakers to be allowed to keep extracting money from you.

The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Clockwise from top left:
1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.”

2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”.

3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.”

4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.

I feel for her and Walz in some sense. But that’s the risk you take throwing your hat in the ring in ‘24. Your opportunity has passed. Maybe you could have been president with a better campaign or better timing. But nobody (except you) is served by you taking another shot at it.

Missouri AG in abortion pill lawsuit argues fewer teen pregnancies hurt state financially • Missouri Independent Missouri’s attorney general has renewed a push to restrict access to the abortion pill mifepristone in a lawsuit filed in Texas.

Andrew Bailey literally sued to stop abortion pills on this logic. Movement of fucking creeps.

These people act like we don’t know that the presence of women on a workforce leads to a sudden, inexplicable* drop in pay, prestige, and men in that workforce. Teachers and nurses weren’t always poorly paid “women’s work”.

*patriarchy

Diermeier? Had the displeasure of being a student under his leadership at his previous employer. Absolute stooge of a man.

Tbh just don’t touch anyone ever involved with Uchicago administration with a 10 foot pole.

Jho* Low dammit

Important context to this is the fact that the film was basically entirely bankrolled by possibly the greatest swindler (by value) of all time: John Low, who stole $4.5B from Malaysian wealth fund 1MDB.

Kinda colors how swindling is portrayed in the film!

I think this says more about how bad parking lots are than anything else. Anywhere as attractive and fundamentally suburban as Costco is gonna attract too many cars and parking around lots of others is bad. And unlike other stores there isn’t much of a solution — Costco is built for car culture.

“But the college game is more diverse! All NBA looks the same!”

What they leave out is to the extent this is true, it’s true like Tolstoy’s comment on families

Can voters “tell” or do voters mistake the fact that Zohran is actually extremely practiced in front of a camera/crowd as “authenticity”?

TBC, I’m a big ZM fan, meh on KH. I just don’t think it’s really a question of authenticity, even if I buy that’s what voters *think* it is.

The zoomers who would join the Catholics for Leo are just gonna join the Episcopalians.

N of 1, but literally my fiancée’s arc. We love Leo in this house, but why go for the church that *might* get to where the Episcopalians already are. And we were both raised Catholic!

The current 6-day Jeopardy champion works at a housing tax credit agency in New Jersey and for his banter with Ken he just looked directly at the camera and said "New York, California, shame on you, build more housing" and folks when I say heroes walk among us

Yet your first post is still right! gorsuch is the dumbest of the textualism/originalism true believers, and kavanaugh is the dumbest of the unitary executive true believers. But kavanaugh, and his movement, are the dumber of the two.

(Nobody come for me, NOT endorsing the former)

These people insist on the most baby brained understandings of how marginalized identities (or lack thereof) play into politics and voters biases. Rooms full of 50 year olds with the same understanding as a 19 y/o in 2016 who just read New Jim Crow, but in reverse.

I couldn’t attend so submitted letters of support. Also got a lot of support from KCDSA members on the issue when I shared with them, which gives me hope for NYC style left YIMBYism winning over California style left NIMBYism. One less faction to fight!
