Super excited to share this fun story I pitched this story over 2 months ago to four other outlets before NPR accepted it.
Such fascinating interviews! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed reporting it!

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die was excellent — a mad romp through the Matrix that weaves together the best elements of Black Mirror into a time-traveling gonzo escapade. I suspect it will become a cult favorite for years to come.

Finally finished #StarfleetAcademy last night. Episode 10 was my favorite. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say @tignotaro.bsky.social’s character takes a spin as captain. I would pay good money to see a spin-off series with Jett Reno leading her own starship. She’s my top captain now (sorry Picard).

Hollywood Isn’t Directly Attacking Trump. It’s Doing Something More Interesting. Less “what we need right now” and more “what it feels like to be alive.”

Many Hollywood projects responding to Trump’s first term were “direct, if unsubtle, approaches” to the moment—but now, films and TV shows are exploring in different ways what being alive feels like during a tumultuous period, Jake Pitre argues:

At a light jog you can cover four miles an hour. So after a leisurely three-hour run, you tuck into a Lord of the Rings Extended Edition marathon with beer and tacos. If you need to stretch things out, start on The Hobbit trilogy. After 15-20 beers, it will be a lot better than you remember.

Why Does Diversity Matter in Science? Greater diversity and feminist critique has helped uncover overlooked biology and shift evolutionary theory in important ways.

For decades, biology treated males as the default — shaping what scientists studied and what they overlooked. Evolutionary biologist Malin Ah-King asks: if who does science affects what we see, what blind spots remain?

Dangerously Underreported - Nieman Reports Sudan’s journalists risk their lives to tell the story of their homeland as the world turns away, writes Isma'il Kushkush.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen as big of a disconnect between the scale of a crisis and the scale of media coverage in my life. ... The scale of the suffering in Sudan is so high and because the [media] coverage is abominably low.”

Emerald Fennell’s 'Wuthering Heights' sacrifices story for spectacle | CBC News Emerald Fennell liberally reinterprets Emily Brontë's 1847 novel in her new film but seems uninterested — to the point of negligence — in what the beloved British author was trying to say.

Thanks! It took about 15-20 hours total. The bone-lined fortress and corpse piles were 3D printed and painted by me. I buried some LED lights under green resin for the floor effects. The bottomless pit is from the WizKids Yawning Portal set and the minis are from the D&D and Pathfinder lines.

Apocalypse no: how almost everything we thought we knew about the Maya is wrong For many years the prevailing debate about the Maya centred upon why their civilisation collapsed. Now, many scholars are asking: how did the Maya survive?

Archaeologist Francisco Estrada-Belli estimates the population of the classic-era Maya lowlands to have been 16 million people — higher than on the Italian peninsula during the peak of the Roman Empire.
