Analogous to deep ocean exploration, where each deeper descent reveals a new discovery, space exploration invites us to reach new heights (or in this case the moon). The courage, and persistence, holds the potential to transform our understanding of life, our planet, and our place in the universe.

In the spirit of exploration, from space to the deep ocean, watching #ArtemisII space launch from beginning to end was not only a sight to see after 50 years, but pushes the boundary of knowledge and wonder of the unknown. #NASA #Artemis
Special thanks to Dr. Jennifer Wong-Ala and Dr.Erin McParland for hosting and coordinating!
I really enjoyed my time at OSU connecting with an amazing group of ocean scientists!

A scientific milestone, that brings together my research in ocean acidification and deoxygenation bridging together as stressors on the marine environment. The two day visit was packed with engaging conversation with faculty and students 🌊
Last week I was invited to give a seminar at Oregon State University for the Ocean Ecology and Biogeochemistry Seminar! College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences - Oregon State University 🌊

Really enjoyed OceanHackWeek this week
🌊 New evidence suggests the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), long considered an internal climate fluctuation, is heavily influenced by human activity.
Greenhouse gases and aerosols may be driving its multidecadal variability.

Day 1 of carpentries! 🙏🏽
The State Department fired the remaining staff in the Office of Global Change, responsible for international climate policy, as part of a larger downsizing of nearly 3,000 employees. This leaves the State Department with no staff knowledgeable about global climate negotiations. 🤷🏻♂️
They want to close the NOAA lab (GML) that brings you this, the most iconic time series in the environmental sciences.

While some grants have been terminated (waiting Supreme Court) certain programs still exist. Every agency now has to submit their budget detailed proposal based on the president budget. Congress then decides what gets funded for FY26 starting in Oct 1
While the results of the proposed budget in NOAA FY2026 awaits with Congress Commitee on Appropriations, the impact to students and early career professionals remain uncertain. If pushed forward, there could be substantial changes to science and workforce development. 🌊

The Trump administration’s proposed FY26 budget for NOAA would eliminate climate research at NOAA. 🧪

Found a coral washed up on the beach. I wonder what type it is
It's hard to adequately summarize how destructive NOAA's 2026 proposed budget released on Monday is for hurricane forecasting, but I crammed all I could into today's newsletter. I encourage everyone with interests along the coast to read it carefully. ⬇️
I'll have a new live Weather and Climate office hour on Tue, July 1 @ 3pm PT to further discuss the potentially disastrous NOAA budget decimation, and also the (ongoing) NorCal lightning/fire weather event (expect a radar/satellite tour). #CAwx #CAfire www.youtube.com/live...
One things that I’ve been questioning lately is, with changes in ocean programs how can outside sectors feel the gap
Reading through the “big beautiful bill” as the senate prepares to vote. This will have serious set back for families and businesses and government functionality.
In Rstudio, the interface has quadrants similar to matlab like the command window and editor. It’s also similar in the style for how code is displayed. Rstudio has very similar code syntax to python.
First time using R, I actually like that the interface is a mixture between matlab and python
