Truly remarkable how many people have told the Pope, in some way or another, to "shut up and dribble." Or corrected him on the Bible, despite their thin education on theology. Or told him to stay out of US affairs, despite him being a US citizen. The hubris is amazing.

The irony here is that Mike Miles's corruption and use/abuse of state funds is NOT EVEN THE WORST THING ABOUT HIM.

THE WORST thing about him and the state takeover of HISD (and now FWISD and 6 others), is the impact Miles's atrocious instructional/funding policies have on students 🧵

If you paid even a penny in federal income tax last year, you paid more than:

Tesla
Southwest
Disney
Live Nation
HP
United
PayPal
CVS Health
Palantir
Citigroup
PG&E
3M

That's right. They paid $0 in federal income tax.

It's time for big corporations to pay their fair share.

Instead of asking chatgpt, why not ask a librarian? You'll get real answers and they won't tell you to kill yourself.

Texas gubernatorial candidate Gina hinojosa speaks to a full house

Meanwhile, in Houston, gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa is talking about Greg Abbott trafficking people into Texas’s private prisons and detention centers so that his donors will profit, and I really appreciate her for it.

What I like best about the Artemis II photos is that it was taken by actual humans. An actual person had to frame it and manually adjust settings. It's their own artistic rendition of what they thought looked best at the time, something no probe, rover or unmanned spacecraft can take. it's art

we’ve talked a lot about how AI might con people into believing bad things, but it is sad to think of how it will also make us stop believing in wondrous things too

Let it be known that Katherine Johnson was the reason for the first astronauts in space.

And now Vanessa Wyche, head of the Johnson Space Center and NASA's highest ranking civil servant, is the responsible for the longest manned space flight in history

This infuriating attitude shows up on the bookshelves in learning environments, too. We expect girls to empathize with boys, but we kneecap every opportunity to let boys empathize with girls. And look where we are.

I wonder if part of it is people choosing not to have kids (for all kinds of valid reasons) but then transferring that sort of parenting attachment to their dog

Uninsured rate for children, by state. Texas accounts for a quarter of all children without health insurance in America.

When Houston got rid of its rainbow crosswalk in Montrose, ordinary people stepped in to paint rainbows all over the neighborhood. It's happening all over Texas, wrote about it here:

Houston! Extreme diversity in cultures, languages, and SES.

Probably the best food scene in the USA, at all levels- amazing food trucks to Michelin stars.

Affordable, sunshine most days, large urban parks, strong fine arts, major sports, major healthcare center … I could go on forever

During this incredible, unifying moment of inspiring international cooperation and spectacular technological achievement, I would really appreciate it if the US president would stop threatening to murder an entire country with bombs.

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

every time i write about wage theft i do a double take because it's so crazy

corporations steal more than $50 bn from workers' paychecks each year, illegally paying workers less than they earned for their labor

that significantly exceeds the combined losses from larceny, burglary, & vehicle theft

Yes, a base is the ultimate goal of the Artemis program.

The plan:

Artemis I: uncrewed, testing rocket
➡️Artemis II: crewed, testing rocket/systems
Artemis III: crewed, testing rendezvous with lander
Artemis IV: crewed, landing on Moon
Artemis V: crewed, landing on Moon, beginning base construction

NASA: Artemis II Artemis I will be the first in a series of increasingly complex missions to build a sustained human presence at the Moon for decades to come.

The Artemis II tracking website is up, if you want to track is in real time over the next week and a half www.nasa.gov/missions/art...
