Some doodles for Galland (my ideadev project)
1 and 2 is me practicing different bodytypes for Nue, i'm trying to maintain a sort of feminine-leaning androgyny to them.

3 is clothing styles for Cudine and Nue. I'm trying to base them on hobbies and sports.

I think this is it. I always thought a plug/bodysuit that combined aspects from a baseball uniform would look neat. I'm very happy and I don't think I'll be changing them going forward. I hope @xodima.bsky.social is happy too. Might get rid of the ankle lights, but overall i feel good!

Pamu (Palm Nut) the Cudine/Rabbit and Jack (Jackfruit) the Nue.

It's a very non dynamic doodle, but i just wanted to finalize what they would look like, and also mess around with this scratchy spray painted-like style.

Pamu is a fish out of water kind of character. He's a martial artist country bumpkin, and Jack pretty much adopted him when he first arrived into the setting that I'll be drawing them in the future. I'll probably still tweak their designs in the future, but wanna use them to portray street life and the underbelly of the setting.

A lot of the influence that i want to portray in Galland (that is, the setting where they inhabit) comes from things like megaman legends, battle network, and animal crossing new horizons. I will to work more on background compositions from now on, because i want to show what a microcosm of the setting is like.

This is the same trio I've sketched and doodled before. I wanted to portray them after a cardio session. They're grabbing sports drinks from a vending machine at a sports-oriented park. The fence behind them blocks out a court, perhaps for tennis or volleyball.

It shows a very common bond between the two species. Marriage customs dictate the unity between both species, it is very lopsided triangle. Cudines (rabbits) and Nue (elves) have different needs when it comes to the way they approach relationships. Cudines are very communal and Nue are somewhat solitary. This is reflected in their 2:1 ratio. Nue tend to view rabbet binary as being roughly equal to a singular nue, even though nue cannot self germinate (most likely ... ).

This is all just an excuse to have keep the pairings dynamic, it's same reasoning behind the sexual diphormism behind rabbits/Cudine in the first place.

In Galland society, those gems you might sometimes see characters are the equivalent of wedding rings. All parties buy a stone/gem for their loved one. All stones are engraved with a registry number, and the buyer retains ownership. Similar to real life, you are expected to honor this commitment for life.

I haven't named these characters yet, although I thinking of naming the Nue Dorian, after the durian fruit. The Hare (male rabbit) can be called Maka, and the Nura (female rabbit) can be called Kola, after nuts, Macadamia and Kola nuts. I'm also thinking of using mushrooms if ever run out of nut names, but yeah, Nuts and Fruits.

Hare is obviously a reference to the animal, and so is Nura (as in Nuralagos, the extinct giant rabbit species from the Mediterranean)

Here is a cropped version of the same drawing, only because i like how the composition plays out while cropped.

A little more info:

The Cudine are based on the italian word for anvil, Incudine. However, i changed the pronunciation. I picked anvil because i wanted to base the rabbits on dwarves. They don't grow past 160 cm for Hares, and 160cm for nura, and their ears increases their height to 180 cm. They'll both claim to be the same height because of this.

Originally, it was going to be an elf vs dwarves thing, but they changed into both being the same species. Now they're both dwarves, but i still felt like the setting would benefit from having a "third" species.

Nue were made to complement the rabbits. They're compatible with either, or both, and while rabbits ten to be pretty much clones of each other, Nue have a variety of shapes and sizes they take. They can go from 170 cm (10cm buffer from rabbets) all the way up to 220cm, and they're susceptible to becoming both underweight and overweight unlike the vast majority of rabbits.

Nue aren't based on a single species. The original were dogs, and then I changed it into something akin to the behemoth from final fantasy, although I kept going back and forth between designs until I arrived at this one. Some monkey, cat, otter hybrid of some kind. The only consistent aspect is their hermaphroditism, and their androgyny. I went through very long spells of just drawing female characters, and I wanted to give myself an outlet, I also wanted to give myself an out of just drawing copies of the rabbits. I wanted to maintain their aesthetics, and also not worry about a 4th culture on top of the 3 I already have to worry about fleshing out.

The name "Nue" comes from the Japanese chimera that's a monkey, a tiger and a snake, that brings bad weather and misfortune. I wanted a single basic color for their skin, with minimal patterns, so didn't go with a classic design for them. Wanted something more human-like.

Drawing with a background, exploring style and workflow.

I liked how the cropped version looked as i was working on csp, so i included a cropped version.

It's a rabbit distributing sports drinks to his hoes.

Doodles. I want them to have playful attitudes generally. The reason for their size disparity was looking for a way to balance out their strengths.

In Galand, there exists a popular group of "heroes" that deal with threats normal cudine or nue are incapable of dealing with, like super villains or monsters. They act more like a paramilitary than a justice league, dealing with threats with impunity. They have a code that prohibits them from engaging with civilian affairs as an organization.

Here we see a Nue "hero" preparing to face off against a Cudine giving him the stink eye. The other cudine feigns disinterest.

The civilian cudine is an experimented martial artist master. Unfortunately, he can't help but to challenge those he views as strong, and has been itching to fight a hero for some time now. His glare was strong enough to bait the hero into an altercation, making them break their conduct code.

A lethargic weekend morning for the lover trio. Kola (cudine f/nura) is still a little groggy, so she turns the on morning programing to get those neurons firing. Dorian (nue) plays with Maka's (cudine m/hare) ears while Kola channel surfs. Maka doesn't care about tv, so he doomscrolls on his phone while eating cereal.

Overgrown yeh. Originally it was going to be a boy dwarf/elf girl thing, but i changed their designs it was all downhill from there. The way i designed them to be clones was limiting, but I ran with it and made nues to have fun drawing other body types.

Here's some more lore dumping. Since cudine and nue are based on dwarves and elves respectively, i want there to be some amount of friction between the two. In more ways than one. 😉

i want to continue working on the trio image on the left.

I always have trouble naming characters. I tend to default to something french sounding like Claire or doing like toriyama used to and naming them after objects/food. I think the best choice is not to overthink it. The fastest sprinter is called Usain Bolt after all.

Trios are very common due to the unique nature of both species. There isn't any interbreeding, but they form long lasting bonds anyways.

Older sketch. A line up showing the scale between them. Ultimately, they'rejust elves and dwarves with sprinkles. Nue are hermaphrodites, and the genital slit functions as both a sheath and a vagina. Perhaps they had amphibian origins?
