I've been on a meds regimen that's all but eliminated those and managed my bipolar really well and as hard as life is now, it's worth living and so yeah I earned these wrinkles. I earned these achey knees. I earned these tired eyes.

Having experienced a lot of suicidal ideation in my life there's a certain pride in getting to the age where I have wrinkles or need progressive lenses. I used to cry myself to sleep thinking of killing myself when I was a kid and didn't really imagine a life after 21.

When you look at these decisions through this frame, it makes sense. They don't want a strong military. They want to demolish it as an institution that can stand up to them.

What it provides is: an intermediary to getting vast amounts of gear into the hands of police at every level. A powerful agitprop tool to rally people around the flag. As we've seen in Russia/Ukraine, a useful place to send dissidents and undesirables to their deaths. And taxpayer cash to funnel.

These people know that they are weak - that if organized people with real strength oppose them, they won't be able to win. So they demolish or co-opt every institution that could oppose them. The military is no longer necessary in a great powers struggle because the nature of warfare has changed.

With Trump, we're seeing a vast acceleration of that in line with what other mafia-state strongmen have done. This is the smash and grab job, and one goal is loot, the other is to demolish the military as an institution, as they do to other institutions that could breed actual resistance

We've seen, since then, the development of weapons systems that don't work and a continued failure to fail any sort of audit, in addition to all the money we know of that goes from our paycheck to military contractors. This is the slow decay.

There's a couple of things going on here:
One is that the military has been a funnel that directs tax dollars to preferred industries, rather than a serious fighting force, for decades now. We knew they were the former during the GWOT but still thought they were the latter, which was wrong.
