a wreath that flowed a bit too far away, and then curiousity and boredom brought him to the festivities in disguise, where he got to meet Xie Lian in person — they dance, fool around, jump over the fire and Xie Lian doesn't remember when was the last time he could have fun like this.
it would symbolised exiting one season and entering another, the fire was supposed to burn away all bad and evil off of you, and also if you jumped in a pair with someone, it would strengthen your relationship.
And tbf, this could actually fit the AU as well — Fox spirit Hua Cheng who caught
by a fox spirit.
The second tradition is one where ppl here would build a fire and then dance around it and jump over it. It had more than one symbolic;
wreaths out of 9 kinds of flowers, and then let them flow down a river or a lake. And whoever caught someone's wreath was supposed to be their fated beloved.
I once explored this tradition with my friend, where Xie Lian would take part in flowing wreaths, except his got caught

For Hualian, there are two customs that I imagine would be interesting for a headcanon or a fic. Both are related to the Summer Solstice.
