Happy Earth Day to those who celebrate.

As an NMRA contest judge I've always encouraged people to compete against themselves to improve their skills, not to try to beat other entrants; it bugs me when people badmouth the judges for being "unfair" because they're disappointed with their scores. Ask the judges - there's probably a reason.

I just came across a great quote from Tony Koester in the June 2009 Model Railroader: "If winning a blue ribbon in a model contest helps to make you a better modeler, that's good. If beating the other guy is your main objective, you may have confused hobbies with sports." #modeltrains

OK, calling this done. File cabinet on left, storage cabinet in middle, book shelf on right. The big cabinets are for rolling stock storage. Now I just need to figure out a track plan! #modelrailway

I agree it will be a challenge, one that I may lose. But it's the only way to get any staging, based on the arrangement of the rest of the room. (My original idea used rolling cabinets at each side with staging tracks on top, but there's just not enough room.)

Latest project. I was having trouble envisioning how my layout would fit into the alloted space, so I built a model. It's tricky, with a sloped ceiling above and access doors beneath. 1:8 scale. #modelrailway
