I stopped by the Arctic Fever exhibit at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library in Toronto last week! It's free to the public and ends in a few days. If you're in Toronto I highly recommend checking it out!

I have such FOMO! An entire day of fascinating sounding Franklin expedition research - I wish it was livestreamed!

Back in Toronto next week and hoping to catch this exhibit this time!
Also: Florence + The Machine, Alan Menken, and West Side Story in concert.
I saw this and was so disappointed 😞
I know it’s supposed to be Left, but every time I read it my brain says Loot

I'm being tormented by the The Terror subreddit where there's a comment that I'm pretty sure is talking about my spreadsheet, so I made a new account to link it but my comment isn't appearing because it's from a brand new account lol

The current grave marker for William Braine, on Beechey Island. Worn and faded wooden headstone with a metal plaque reading: “SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF WILLIAM BRAINE, R.M., H.M.S EREBUS DIED APRIL 3D, 1846 AGED 32 YEARS ‘CHOOSE YE THIS DAY WHOM YE WILL SERVE’ Joshua, Ch. XXIV, 15 This marker is a replica. The original is housed at Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, Yellowknife, N.W.T. 1993” The original grave markers for all three crewmen who died here are in storage - you can read loads more about them, and the inscriptions, at the brilliant illuminator dot blog https://www.illuminator.blog/p/gravemarkers.html
Today’s the anniversary of the death of Private William Braine of the Royal Marines, crew member of HMS Erebus, who died at Beechey Island in 1846. He was one of three members of the Franklin expedition to die there during their overwintering, and was buried there with his two comrades.
Oh I didn't know that!
I've put together some NEW notes on Francis Crozier’s name and career seen in the light of his father’s local (and not so local) connections - at

I stumbled on a collection of police records from Fife around the 1920s that include mugshots and it's my new favourite thing. These two lads were arrested for playing football -- I don't think they have any regrets
Seaman's ticket for John Kenly. Born 4 Nov 1801 in St. Monance, Fife. Height: 5ft7in. Hair: Black. Complexion: Fresh. Eyes: Grey. Marks: J. K. Helen Scott on right arm.
According to his seaman's ticket, HMS Terror quartermaster John Kenley had his wife's name tattooed on his arm 😢
!!!
It turns out I had a terrible sleep the day of my flight so I skipped the exhibit to have a nap instead. But I’m back in Toronto next month for Florence and the Machine so I have another chance!
The concert I was hoping to see got cancelled too so I only did 2/4 of what I planned haha
Also getting my theatre fix with a Jeremy Jordan concert, Some Like It Hot, and a new queer version of Cyrano!
Popping down to Toronto next week and I'm hoping to stop by and check this exhibit out!
Wow! Looks so yummy!
Tumblr version to follow tomorrow, but I wanted to get something up last minute before the end of February as it's been too long since I posted!
I have a new post up on my blog outlining my genealogy research on Abraham Seely, an AB aboard HMS Erebus during the Franklin expedition.

I was hoping to go to a conference in the UK this year (work related, not genealogy) but that doesn’t seem like it’s happening, so now I’m wondering if instead I can find a NWP tour for my vacation time 👀
Day 9 - Dual moguls were endlessly entertaining. Watched pairs figure skating and planned to watch slopestyle qualis but didn’t have time. Not much progress on the sweater, just doing short rows.
Day 8 - Entertaining short track chaos, even though Canada lost medal(s) to it! Cast on my sweater and knit the neck.
Woke up at 3:30am to watch men's dual moguls and dear lord was that worth it! Such a exciting and chaotic event!
But she also thinks it's silly to be outraged by them swearing, because she thinks short trackers and other athletes are probably dropping some choice words, but curlers are mic'd up and so held to a different standard.
But she's mad about his response and looking like a "dickwad" on the world stage while representing Canada, and says she's never liked this team and they've been "egotistical asshats" for years lol
Sometimes you'll see her with one game on the TV, another on her iPad, and another on her phone lmao. Her take on #boopgate is that pointing is just his delivery style and it wouldn't actually affect anything, given how heavy the rocks are.
My mother is obsessed with curling to the point that she can name like every competitive Canadian curler, and also their spouses and children, which is not creepy at all. She watches like every event local and international with a Canadian in it.
I am forever thankful for CBC's excellent Olympic coverage and all their dedicated streams for different sports
