I haven't listened to it in an age but I thought _Scandal Controvery and Romance_ was a great sort of trashy Ramones-y girl-group descendant. Not on streaming services. Poof, gone.

Sire Records man Richard Gottehrer produced the Prissteens album, _Scandal Controvery and Romance_. The hope was the Prissteens would be the next Go-Gos or Blondie. I think it kinda tanked.
I don't miss many bars but I really miss that bar.
And the Prissteens version of "Whole Wide World," also on the jukebox, because the Hound was their manager. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX1p...

For some reason, first spring heat always reminds me of listening to Wilco and Wreckless Eric on the jukebox at Lakeside Lounge in the late '90s.
Cool record.

Friends, the blog known as Doom & Gloom from the Tomb turns 17 years old today. Let's celebrate with something radically irrelevant.

Loose memory popped into my head today. I remember when a dude in my poetry seminar in college submitted lyrics to Common's "I Used to Love H. E. R." as his own poem and the whole class workshopped it for two hours.
I know! I couldn’t resist.

i was so bloody excited to surf the winter airwaves & have my first full @wfmu.bsky.social fill-in slot since september that i didn't play (much) holiday music last night, but still tried to stay seasonally, uh, vibrational. archive/playlist: wfmu.org/playlists/JJ...
Just watched Licorice Pizza for the first time. What a wonderful flick.
I don’t know that I would categorize Sun Bear as such, but wonderful music.
Need a miracle? In this economy?
Absolutely love a good James rant.
I loved his reply! And he told me you're probably sick of hearing him go on and on about adjacent jazz topics 😅 😂
Thank you @longrally.bsky.social for landing on the SML descriptor my brain has been struggling to find: "gorp jazz"
😱 amazing, never knew there was a private press version

It’s kind of impossible to keep up. So much music!
I don’t think I’ll truly ever understand those people who “prioritize sleep.”
