Use of toxic Pfas in consumer goods must be urgently restricted, MPs say Commons committee heard from residents of Yorkshire town with the highest levels of ‘forever chemicals’ in UK

I'm part of the Environmental Audit Committee, and today we published our report on PFAS 'forever chemicals' 👇

It's scary how many products contain PFAS, and it's impossible to avoid them through our individual purchasing choices, so govt needs to take action.

There's a global race to secure EV battery gigafactories & reduce reliance on China.

But not all clean-tech projects are created equal. Some generate good jobs & domestic capacities, others produce ecological harm & low value-added enclaves.

Nighty photography shot taken in Dalyan, Turkey. Across a dark river can be seen the ancient cliff side tombs and pillars which are lit by golden floodlights which reflect in the river. A grey boat is moored on the far shore with tall trees in the background and more floodlights reveal a small dock.

Analysis Finds That Google's AI Overviews Are Providing Misinformation at a Scale Possibly Unprecedented in the History of Human Civilization A new analysis commissioned by The New York Times suggests that Google's AI Overviews are wrong an astonishing percentage of the time.

'Another experiment found that users still listened to AI when it gave them the wrong answer nearly 80 percent of the time — a grim trend the researchers dubbed “cognitive surrender.”'

Cognitive surrender 🥲

They are the game Billionaires and Guillotines and expansion pack, Reform or Revolution. The covers feature exaggerated and comedic illustrations of famous billionaires (on the yellow box) and a rat with a pitchfork and pet dog (red box)

A paperback book is held against a light blue background by a small, white hand.

It is titled The Othered Woman: How White Feminism Harms Muslim Women, by Shahed Ezaydi.

The cover text is black capital letters against an off white background with a pattern of blue and brown triangles.

Happy to finally get my hands on this after backing its journey to publication when it was still with Unbound - congratulations to Shahed Ezaydi!

The first chapter is already proof of what an impressive and vital piece of writing this is.

Red Lines: Why we need Red Lines (Aurelien Mondon) - Reactionary Politics Research Network This article by Aurelien Mondon discusses the need for red lines in the struggle against reactionary politics.

"It is time to accept that the far right doesn’t need to be in power to have far-right politics implemented, and that the current system can indeed accommodate the far right if its survival is threatened by other crises."

Great piece from @aurelmondon.com

NEW ANALYSIS: China's CO2 has now been 'flat or falling' for 21 months

* Down in 2025
* Still below Mar 2024
* Clean energy wave a key factor

If this is China's peak (TBC) it's the climate story of the century so far…

I'd characterise extreme ecofascism as marginal but growing, and also linked to a number of problematic more mainstream narratives, and they mutually strengthen each other - which widens the Overton Window for harmful policies, but also reinforces and proliferates extremism

2 months ago 1 0 0 0

Good question - I would say being marginal does not necessarily mean something is not worth closer monitoring, so I'm not sure that's an either/or circumstance and we should be taking care to understand different groups within extremist movements to monitor growth, recruitment etc

🚨New article w/ @kathleenthelen.bsky.social🚨

This paper examines how the cloud hyperscalers (Microsoft, Amazon, and Google) played a critical role in the transition from platform capitalism to the new AI economy. The cloud business model, we argue, also contributed to the new tech-maga politics.
