Pure Shit is one the key independent Australian films—and also features Helen Garner in a rare role.

Love you too. Xx catch you soon.
One of the best.
Ahhh that knowing last step.
Honestly the hard lump sounds good.
Frederick Wiseman - rare case where a 96-year-old filmmaker’s death feels tragic because they had so much more left to do. Uninterrupted streak of curiosity, empathy, wisdom, and quiet anger, ended only by the reality of living in a human body.
A photo of an Australian Tawny Frogmouth (Australian bird) perched on the edge of a tipped over recycling bin.
Went to put the recycling in the bin. Discovered a Tawny Frogmouth.
SYD folks...Makino Takashi is coming to visit....the show at Art Gallery NSW is already almost sold out....don't sleep!
Illustrated poster for Cattet and Forzani's film LET THE CORPSES TAN
Cattet and Forzani crew! It was just brought to my attention that the Kino Lorber blu of Let The Corpses Tan is now on sale for $20, almost half price - includes a commentary track by myself and the legendarily hot bitch @tjinimin.bsky.social

I would say Bertrand Bonello over the last decade. Denis certainly before that.
Confused by the magazine.
Spent the past few hours finally catching up with the films of the late Nishikawa Tomonari, who uploaded basically his entire incredibly generative and dazzling body of work for free here, feel to do the same: www.tomonarinishikawa.com/film.html

To mark five years since the pandemic began, I’m making my film Lines Drawn available to view for the month of January.
Lines Drawn, Chris Kennedy, 21 minutes
Shot in 2 downtown Toronto parks over the course of the pandemic, the film looks at various measures of persuasion, containment & control 1/
We can chat.

As a film critic, I honestly don’t think you should give a shit about what film critics think (Like what you like! It’s OK! You don't need anyone else's permission or approval!).
But if anyone was curious, here’s my favourite ten* films of 2024 in no particular order:
Uneasy about the nationalism, but this is mildly unAustralian.
The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears (Helene Cattet and Bruno Forzani, 2013)
Two filmmakers I'm so proud to call friends, H+B are wholly original and driven by such extraordinary talent and passion.
I also co-edited this book about them with dear @tjinimin.bsky.social qldff.com/store/The-St...
The Duke of Burgundy (Peter Strickland, 2014)
My sweet friend Peter also happens to be one of my favourite filmmakers. Our Q+A from the 2019 below, and you can also still get the book on his films I co-edited with my darling @tjinimin.bsky.social

All of that is true. They’re also dealing with a substantial increase of projects being managed as so many Covid-overlapping projects had extensions.
Help support one of our community’s most generous and unique filmmakers. Tomonari Nishikawa was diagnosed recently with Stage 4 cancer and there is a gofundme to support his family: gofund.me/824134ea
I was thrilled to be on the film jury for SXSW Sydney, and could not be prouder that the Best Feature Film award went to A Grand Mockery, a bold experimental genre film (think Bogan Bela Tarr) shot on 16mm from Brisbane that is exactly what Australia needs more of www.sxswsydney.com/news/screen-...
Cover of book CATTET & FORZANI edited by John Edmond and Alexandra Heller-Nicholas. Image of a brunette woman's face with three leather-gloved hands touching her, her hair spread out around her. Text appears in a red box over her eyes.
Also! I co-edited this wonderful little book about Cattet and Forzani's films a few years ago with the legendary John Edmond. H + B worked with us on this and gave us great behind-the-scenes photos - and its CHEAP. Support indie films! Support indie publishing! qldff.com/store/The-St...
I think that’s part of their general deal with A24 in Australia. Certainly hasn’t guaranteed other A24 titles.
How did you go?
It wasn’t very good.
Caught up on it. Surprisingly indiscreet from Fitzgerald, whether on Gosden's lack of succession plan (true though a board problem), dislike of advertising positions (clearly true), & that the programmers quit prior to hearing about Bertolin (considering timing, I presumed they had heard in advance)
Hopefully the loss of half the team registers somewhere. I just read Sandra's post and Ant's follow-up (I had read his email.)
Has there been any meaningful comment in the public? Articles, opinion?
