These days the problem is more the words massage parlor.

The media uses the words in stories about illicit businesses being closed down. Yet the public may be assuming it's a real massage business.

The words Masseuse and Masseur are in most states licensing laws. They used to be more associated with illicit businesses but most have forgotten that.

What should we call illicit businesses?

National Certification...was never really National. And now is meaningless. This week I'll be sharing the rocky history which includes discounts on Pizza.

since there is not anything that supports a clinical massage designation, a study should be done to find out what competencies would make a clinical massage therapists. we only have the ELAP that is for basic entry level education.

I don't know about this...just changing it to add the word clinical won't do much to stop the illicit businesses. what will? Inquiring minds want to know...

In 2022, Deshaun Watson (quarterback for the Cleveland Browns) was accused of the sexual assault of many massage therapists. At that time, AMTA was holding their annual convention in Cleveland right before the football season was to begin, yet they failed to address the issue in any way.
