Cognitive correlates of human endurance | PNAS www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1...
Our new study in @pnas.org shows that adding cognitive demands to endurance walking increased perceived physical effort, but people with stronger cognitive abilities felt the impact less. @laurafenton.bsky.social
This is a big study out of the PowerLab looking at the scaling of Residual force enhancement from the single fibre to joint level in humans!!
Very proud of the team for pulling this one off!

mind blown.
I'm happy to share a new paper from our group (@movementscience.bsky.social), accepted in @jexpbiol.bsky.social: Frequency and leg stiffness adaptation in human vertical hopping before, during and after added load.

We've grown more and more interested in the role of fatigue in shaping locomotor behavior. Our latest paper points to a functional consequence of the increased physiological demand placed on calf muscles when operating at shorter lengths—namely accelerated fatigue.

But also: these scholars moved from all over the world, often with personal sacrifice, to work here. they are part of our broader Cambridge and MA community, too. They have lives here: partners with jobs, families, kids in school, apartment leases, pets, friends, etc.
Mines ME PhD student Will Feldman presenting his evaluation of muscle excitations and joint kinetics during hopping at Mines Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium! Great work! Excited for this collaboration with @lukenjessup.bsky.social and @birdbiomech.bsky.social #IMSI #Biomechanics
Finally got my own copy. Anyone aware of any groups *currently* invested in making direct measurements of muscle energetics?

Integrating Biomechanics, Energetics and Ecology in Locomotion
Was fun to be part of this paper led by Glen Lichtwark "Integrating muscle energetics into biomechanical models to understand variance in the cost of movement"
