When it comes to freedom of speech and expression, the protection of things you like depends completely on your willingness to protect the things you don't like. Without free expression, art just becomes propaganda disguised as art. Art itself ceases to exist.

Writing, and most other creative endeavors, are like that. We're all different and no one system works for everyone. You just have to work on creating your own over time.

I'm one of those weird people that having goals lowers their output, ironically. The moment I start to fall below them I feel terrible and get tilted. I tend to just approach each day with an "I'm going to write as much as I can today" mentality, and that's helped me a lot personally.
