I love social work as much as I hate that it has to exist — and that it exists so imperfectly.

Happy social work month. May this whole-ass profession one day be a memory. Until then, I’ll hypocritically earn a DSW I guess 🏴

p.s. Screw NASW, they’re bootlickers 🐷

And because I dream for a better world: A world so damn good we aren’t needed anymore. A world where social workers & co. targeted the root causes of social issues SO WELL that they ceased existence.

Because I know social work’s neoliberal history of maintaining capitalist systems of have-nots & upholding the carceral state’s status quo via soft policing.

Social work is my lifeblood. My calling, my vocation. It’s the entire lens through which I view the world.

And? Equally confusing is that I want it to be abolished.

I hope to live to see social work dwindle into obsolescence, for two reasons:

Little did I know that years later, I’d be the reason hundreds — actually, thousands — of people over the course of my career had: homes, healthcare, mental healthcare, food, food stamps, furniture, therapy, social security, jobs, attended school,

Years ago in undergrad, I briefly changed my major from social work to christian ministry (lololol). Then I changed it back to social work. Little did I know that social work was — and is — my ministry. 🧵🪡

i don’t know what it is, but i am a living magnet for people’s lost credit cards, debit cards, ID’s, and cash lol. i’m thankful that it’s me who finds them so that i can give them back to the rightful owner or to the store it dropped at, but it feels like it happens more often than it should 😂

I’m not ringing any false bells of alarmism, nor will I mince words: There is a political coup happening in the U.S.

And it’s mostly because of White Christian Nationalism. 🧵

This is a very substantial thread, most notably b/c Rev. Mel identifies the ways in which one needn't be raised in a ~ White Christian Nationalist ~ environment to subscribe, often unquestioningly, to the tenets thereof. I learned LOTS of this growing up in the mainstream Methodist church.
