A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.
I see it differently - since every connection I make is encrypted already anyway, all this does is add a point of weakness. With a VPN, now all my connections are available to one police query to the company that runs the VPN.
I don’t trust a VPN provider any more or less than my home ISP.
