An opposition party would not be on vacation right now. They would have coordinated message to the public about the fact that a President in cognitive decline is threatening more war crimes. They would be BLASTING the message on all available platforms.
There is no future for humanity in which the basic conditions for life for millions of people can be destroyed on one person’s whim.
The other element here is that there are innumerable ways those in formal positions of power can engage in non-cooperation that would jam up the administration but very few of those are actually happening.
Morally, legally, economically the war on Iran is disastrous and the disaster goes on for years no matter what happens now. But what cannot be overstated is that in pure national security terms it is also an unmitigated catastrophe.
