Cartoon. It says, “Happy Mother’s Day to all you women, mothers and child-free alike! Thank you for selflessly giving up fair pay and for sacrificing your families, your welfare, your security, and your retirement, to save our budget. YOU ARE THE BEST!” In the lower right corner are Finance Minister Nicola Willis and PM Christopher Luxon applauding. Luxon is looking a little anxiously at MP Brooke van Velden, who has gone into robot mode and sending signals to the mother ship.

They were sending spirits to the stars, then Elon Musk's Starlink cut in front
Māori science, navigation experts warn of ‘obliteration’ of indigenous knowledge as satellites flood Earth’s lower orbit.
Not like we need more reasons to hate Musk. But here we are. #Kikorangi he's destroying our night sky
"Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites have already interfered with a tuku wairua ceremony during Matariki, when whānau who have died are released to the stars."

Hi you don’t have to post it. And you don’t have to re-post it.
And you can think about the fact that Jewish people are gonna be traumatized every single time you make us see it over and over and over and over.
You can just not post it.

🧵Topic: Seeking Illustrators/Artists from Aotearoa
Hello lovely people. We're looking at putting together a book of my Spotted posts this year. And the first thing is to find an artist!
So, if you're a kiwi artist/illustrator with commissions open, I'd love it if you could share some details (1)

Jane Kelsey's Submission on the proposed Regulatory Standards Bill
A guest post by Emeritus Professor Jane Kelsey, sharing her in-depth knowledge of neoliberalism and the Regulatory Standards Bill
Submission on the Regulatory Standards Bill by Emeritus Professor Jane Kelsey.
It articulates (quite succinctly, considering) all the many *many* ways in which this bill is terribly flawed and a betrayal of democracy & our nation.

Reposting as a reminder. Get your submission in.
You can literally write something like:
I oppose the Treaty Principles Bill because it is unjust and ripping New Zealand apart.
I recommend this bill be ditched.

There is still time New Zealand!! I can not stress how important this is. Your submission doesn’t have to be long. Your English doesn’t have to be perfect. You can submit in te reo Māori. But please just get something in by 11.59pm Tuesday, 07 January 2025.

Government's financial update expected to show bigger deficits for longer
Broad expectations are for the budget deficit to push out by more than $1b from the budget forecast towards $15b for the year ended June.
Well, yes, if you cut 8500-10,000 public sector roles, and drive 79,000 people to leave NZ, plus give landlords a tax break, of course the tax take will be lower 🤦🏽♀️
This is a very simple maths equation.

The Press
New Zealand’s new school lunch scheme is a prime example “enshitification” - Macquarie Dictionary’s Word of the Year.
Compass Group’s lunches don’t look great, nor nearly enough for growing tamariki.
