Researchers have been watching this network of YouTube accounts for awhile--the accounts post regularly, push a consistent message and if one goes down, another pops up. They've now turned attention to Alberta separation, and US annexation.

A network of 20 inauthentic YouTube accounts has racked up nearly 40 million views by peddling lies, grievance, division and narratives normalizing the prospect of Alberta’s secession and annexation by the United States. @charlesrusnell.bsky.social reports. #abpoli
That’s the Oilers’ first win this season with McDavid held off the scoresheet.
Fairly good treatment of the (IMHO very dumb) idea of Canada joining the EU. It is important to emphasize BOTH:
a) The transition would be very costly. (e.g. 10 years of 'harmonization' of our law with the EU acquis)
b) the end point would not be good for Canada. (e.g. Euro currency, e.g. CAP)

It took 10 months and 5 inquiries, but ... newly released open-answer responses to the province's Alberta Next survey show widespread frustration with the process, with many calling it biased, one-sided, and lacking options to say “no”

Over on Twitter, Greg Clark, former leader of the Alberta Party and Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission committee member shared his thoughts on the UCP's failure to act on the recommendations of the Commission.
He was one of the most reasonable politicians I've ever worked with. Worth a look.
I am sure that it is a coincidence that the Electoral Boundaries Commission final report has been deleted from the website. Good thing that I downloaded it when it was released.
Elections are about people choosing their representatives, not politicians choosing their voters. Yet that is what the UCP is planning. It is planning to deliberately disenfranchise urban voters. Red Deer and Lethbridge would not exist as autonomous political entities. Calgary/Edmonton hurt too.
Today, Danielle Smith and the UCP caucus unveiled plans to rig the next election:
A new motion indicates the UCP's plans to manipulate the election maps for the next election in their favour, and without any requirement to consult the public.
This has never been done in Canadian history. /1
2) To replace the Commission's majority report and create a committee of MLAs to determine boundaries. Without public hearings. I fear this is to impose the minority report (2 UCP appointees) to extremely gerrymander ridings in Alberta. A major blow to democracy in Alberta (and Canada).
They are literally making it up as they go along. When they don't like the outcome, the Smith government rigs the process.
It's a worrisome pattern for those who care about procedural fairness and institutional forebearance.
You know, real conservatives.
MPs are not voting machines.
When they cross the floor, or resign from cabinet, or vote against party lines, they are representing constituents and providing a vital check on leadership.
Party leaders are powerful enough as it is. Taking such tools away reduces accountability between elections.
To drive this point home, a car zoomed through that very intersection last week and crashed through the fence by the rock garden while my kids were playing in the playground.
Honestly had no idea these tracks were controversial. I’ve used them every day with my kids for the past two weeks since the melt. The pros/cons of not having Facebook and being (blissfully) unaware of my angry neighbours.
Yeah, it's looking like Liberals will pull all three by-elections tonight
"It's way too serious for people to play it safe."
Is Alberta sleepwalking into separation? @maxfawcett.bsky.social says everyday citizens better wake up and take action before it's too late. Thoughts?

“In early 2027, we’re going to be taking a look at the municipal development plan. Once we get that done, we can move on to finalizing the updated zoning bylaw,” said Coun. DJ Kelly, who represents Ward 4. “That’s likely the place where you’re going to see more of these changes occurring, which means we basically have about 12 months to 18 months.” As of August, more than 300,000 residential properties will revert back to the zoning rules that were in place until 2024.
So the thing about repealing before replacing is that there is no incentive for anti-density councillors to accept any densification in the Zoning Bylaw. Which is why it was important to keep blanket rezoning while making some amendments to the Land Use Bylaw. www.ctvnews.ca/calgary/arti...
“Woman yelling at a cat” is an Internet meme. It juxtaposes two images: on the left, a screen capture of "Malibu Beach Party from Hell", an episode from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, depicting cast member Taylor Armstrong crying and pointing (held back by Kyle Richards); and on the right, a picture uploaded to Tumblr in June 2018, depicting a white cat from Ottawa, Ontario, Smudge, sitting at a dinner table behind a salad with a seemingly bemused expression. This version has been edited to superimpose trumps angry screaming face over Taylor’s and the cat has been given a white pope mitre with a gold cross design.

something that wrinkles my brain every time I remember it is the fact that total eclipses are only possible on earth because the moon and sun appear to be the same size in our sky, due to the insanely, astronomically unlikely fluke that the moon is 400x smaller than the sun but 400x closer to us.

I can't stop laughing at this post. It's perfect.
I truly can’t reconcile it with my day to day experience. I either live in a vacuum sealed bubble or people just aren’t connecting their values to their vote.
This is one of the worst planning decisions I’ve ever seen a Canadian city do. This was “the Playbook” to a tee, weaponizing the words “blanket zoning.” Embarrassing for Calgary Council. The Mayor then adds insult to staff & years of good faith work by claiming it “broke the public’s trust.”
Awful.
I’ve said since 2022 that Ottawa needs to take MAGA’s interference in our politics seriously.
We go on endlessly about Chinese or Russian or Iranian meddling, but the biggest threat - by far - is from south of the border.
