This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

A shallow rock-filled stream. Clear, calm water flows with a small leaf and two pieces of pine straw floating atop the gently rippled mirror surface. Just below, there are several chubby little tadpoles visible swimming in the cool water. Just young hatchlings with heads and tails, they have not yet developed their legs. They swim up to the surface and dive down again, some seeming to hug to the sides of the warm rocks nestled in the river bed. Playful little water pups, happy in their home.

36 weeks pregnant today, and as Erik's due date approaches, I am feeling a mounting sense of anxiety. Not about going into labor, or giving birth, or caring for an infant, but the state of the world that I have brought my children into. How can I prepare them for such a world?
