Afternoon Encounters 🌴
Week 2 since my book published, and still absolute silence from my local POD company which means I still don't have a physical copy of my book, and my book is still unavailable for purchase in my country 💀

Get to know the Ne'er-do-wells, except it's through shitposts I found on Pinterest! Who do you think will be your favourite? 1/2

People should read.
I'm tired of people not reading.
Please, if you can, PLEASE, read! Read everything, but especially fiction! Read comics!
It will help you with empathy AND make you smarter.
Please, read.

If you only read one book this year, read this.

Can we normalize talking about how emotionally vulnerable writing a book is?
It's something I've been thinking about a ton as I count down the months until my book comes out. I can't wait for people to finally read it, but...the thought of people reading it also TERRIFIES me.
I'm fairly certain there are not millions of bears running/attending a mauling academy out in the woods.

TGIF!🥳🙌
This weekend, I'm choosing books.📚
(I'm always choosing books but it sounded more dramatic this way 🤷♀️)

I love reading novels. I’m always amazed by folks who don’t read fiction. There is nothing better, to me, than being in the middle of a book that you can’t wait to return to. It’s like living two lives at once.
So we have to pay to justify our presence? Most of us joined @draft2digital.bsky.social bc it was free, that was the appeal, and its gone now #draft2digital
@draft2digital.bsky.social decision to charge small authors to use their site is so fucking scummy. If you need maintenance fees so badly, why are you charging your clients who already don't make a lot from you, and not adding that charge to those who DO make money from using your distributions?
Every time I start to write about the #Draft2Digital fee announcement, I realize I'm angry ranting and I have to stop myself. But I'm livid. Also, I've made $2.38 through D2D this year so far. I won't be paying for the privilege of having my books on there, no thanks.
#tiredoftheBS
Yeah, I write and I have a few books but I'm NOT paying money to be on your podcast, get readers or reviews, or any other crappy fees you try to tack on and still call it "free."
Okay, @draft2digital.bsky.social I get that you're probably about to go under and that in a last ditch effort to save yourself you've come up with the idea of charging $12 to indie authors who make less than $100 dollars a year, but that's a bad idea. It's hurtful to indie authors...more in reply.
I hope so
I got their email today, and my first thought was fuck off. This is probably the worst decision they could've made. Is there anyway we can get them to reverse it? So many of us small indies will be paying them more than they pay us, its ridiculous
ugh. I sell a book on Draft2Digital (formerly Smashwords). Now they're going to start charging a yearly maintenance fee for authors who make under $100/year. I rarely make $5 in a year. This fee means I'm paying for the privilege of having my book online. Guess I'm just gonna put the pdf on my site.
On the bright side, it's finally cold and rainy and wonderful. On the downside, I'm too sick to capitalise on the vibes to write coherent sentences. I think I've written a total of 100 words this week so far 😭

I've been so sick this entire week that walking makes me dizzy 🥲
Owning cats will make it look like you don’t clean up after yourself.
Why has there been an envelope in the middle of the living room floor for the past two weeks, you ask?
Because it’s his favorite envelope, that’s why
the stop killing games demand is such a no-brainer... if someone is selling me a game it has to be fit for purpose, it has to be playable, or else that's fraud. if shutting down your servers breaks my copy of the game irrevocably, then it's not fit for purpose. it is broken by design. that's fraud.
I have actually had this happen. Cats were running round and yelling downstairs. I told them to shut up and behave.
Found out in the morning somebody had broken in and stolen our TV and the car (got the keys from the kitchen). I apologised to the cats.
Writing a book: this is amazing, I have so many ideas and characters and plot points and themes, I cannot be stopped.
Writing a synopsis: I have no memory of writing a single one of these words and thus cannot summarise them at all.
I'm sick but not sick. I have a temperature but no runny nose or coughs and my body is so sensitive that everything hurts 🫠 I'm also dizzy whenever I walk so thats fun
Its been a week since my debut book was released and I'm still being ghosted by the local POD company I paid to get physical copies of my book 🧍I nudged them again today so we'll see if they reply
