Harrow crash leaves ones woman dead and others hurt The driver of a car has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

My thoughts with everyone traumatised by this horrific crash and especially with the family and friends of the woman who has sadly died.

Yet another example of why we need a step change in action on Vision Zero, designing out systemic danger on roads as we do on rail.

Incredible birds. Amazed at how fast they are when they just glide let alone dive.

Hope they identify and charge the drivers.

I believe that children are the future etc.

They suggest actions that benefit all of us.

- Better neighbourhoods
- Improved public health
- Fewer road deaths
- More fun

If road deaths were a virus, we’d call it a pandemic. Safer transport helps us all – and we need it urgently | Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Jean Todt Deaths on the road costs countries up to 5% of GDP. Centring transport around people, not cars, can propel development

“Road safety is a crisis that has gone on far too long. No road deaths are necessary or acceptable. Yet it is also much more than that. Safe and sustainable mobility can power a better future for us all.”

Bill Nye, Science Guy, also gets it:

"There's no machine known that is more efficient than a human on a bicycle. Bowl of oatmeal, thirty miles. You can't come close to that."

And back to belligerent after sentencing. He's back in court facing charges relating to failing to identify the driver of his vehicle which was also reported for careless driving around a cyclist. Can we guess who was driving?

Driver of this Ford Mondeo who close passed me last year opted for a court appearance, he received 4 points, a fine and court costs.
He should have accepted an Educational Course like the Mitsubishi Barbarian driver in front of him! youtu.be/djQICsVCIPk?...

That pass was very dangerous and could very easily have resulted in life changing injuries or death. Act like this in any other sphere of life (for example at work) and you'd face serious charges.

Very light sentence especially given the aggravating hate crime element. How dare we call out drivers who endanger our lives.

Useful to a point. Certainly better than a warning letter which trivialise the offence. Have experienced some very dangerous passes which weren't charged as such.

A Notice of Intended Prosecution heading to this VW driver who did don't pass a cyclist leaving at least 1.5m of space when passing.

Definitely. We walk to most things locally. Such a freedom in this. Ironic considering how cars are marketed.

And insist police properly enforce laws around vulnerable road users. Currently it's a postcode lottery as to whether dash cam teams act on video evidence of careless and dangerous driving around cyclists.

Definitely. Cheaper, healthier, better for neighbourhoods and the environment. And yet people continue to drive everywhere.

If the roads cannot be made safe for cyclists then all efforts to encourage cycling will fail. Improving driver behaviour is central to this because infra cannot cover the entire roads network. Enforcing the law on driving around vulnerable road users is central to bringing about this change.
