@dilan-c.bsky.social and I are co-organising a seminar on @saranahmed.bsky.social at next year‘s ACLA! 😱 We want to assemble an international team of Ahmed-nerds and killjoy enthusiasts. Please send us your abstract and join us in The City of Conferences, Montreal! ✨ www.acla.org/seminar/028c...
Thank you all for your enthusiasm! It was my pleasure to share and read Prof. David Dabydeen's Sweet Lijie (Special thanks to Peepal Tree Press for supporting the book signing). Now pulling myself together for SFS and SCS next week!
¡JUN13! Join us for a conversation with David Dabydeen on his novel, Sweet Li Jie. We will explore the entangled experiences of Chinese, Indian and African diasporas in post-emancipation Guyana. We will discuss questions of migration, gender and the intertwined histories of indentureship and slavery
Recap of the Comparative Subalternities Conference before announcing the next event: Iffat Mirza and I were honoured by the great interest from researchers across the UK. It's encouraging to see growing connections between fields that foreground the periphery! Start of the conversations!
I almost forgot how much I have enjoyed teaching since first leading a class 8years ago. Although teaching now in a non-native language triples my preparation time, the detailed preparation helps me better grasp the texts. If I decide to stay in academia, the joy of teaching might be a major reason!
Teaching seminars last term reignited my academic interests. The undergraduates’ enthusiasm in the topics of the sessions reminded me of the importance of sharing my knowledge, and I was encouraged (and flattered) when a student asked if I taught other courses in the final session.
