Hmm, the "other mediums" thing is a good point. Can't think of any Diablo references outside of gaming, but I've seen SF2 in Family Guy, That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, and 8-Bit Theater. There are probably people who know what a Hadoken is and don't know where it came from. Ok, I'm sold.

Fighting games are definitely a blind spot for me, though I did play a decent amount of SF2 back in the day. But I think I could take your post and replace "fighting games" with "ARPGs" and it would be a reasonable thing to say about D2. I don't think we get WoW or Destiny without it, for example.
