Hi folks! Could you please use alt text on your posts so they're accessible to everyone, especially blind and partially sighted followers? (You can turn on an alt text reminder in Bluesky settings, and RNIB among others have guides to help with writing it: www.rnib.org.uk/campaign-wit...)

Depending on bounds of fantasy, I recently read The Haunting of Hill House for the first time and fell in love with it.
On a similar haunted house theme and unequivocally fantasy, Olivia Atwater's The Witchwood Knot is a gothic fairytale I really liked.
(And yes definitely Gideon the Ninth)
I'm now hungry for at least three different kinds of bread. Free bread not so much a thing here, so fun culturally as well as the emotional swings.

I cannot (can completely) believe that we have gotten to affirmative action for cis white dudes in FANTASY.
Git gud, boys.
i think if you tweet "a whole civilization will die tonight" you shouldn't go to the hague, the hague should get to come to you
A large concrete rabbit which has iron rod whiskers and is quite geometric. It is some sort of play house for kids, with a door and windows.

I think about “normal to want and possible to achieve” all the time
Also her restaurant is in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter and apparently that film used the cathedral as a key location so it maybe made more of an impression if they were around the corner? I can't swear I wouldn't have taken the opportunity, knowing D&D was filmed here, to make a mimic themed dish...
I'd also love to see the brief, because I wonder if it said [region]'s film *industry* rather than just the films? Inside NI people can shout quite a lot about films being made here - because we didn't use to have a film industry! And NI Screen have a hard-working publicity dept.
Gazebo, probably? Pop-up gazebo maybe. UK/N.Irish if that helps.
Not-(only)-SFF: Found Family; musicals; choosing hope/fight in impossible odds; "if you don't have a moral compass accidentally choosing a person who has one and cleaving to them and their code and people forever is fine" (look, not all tropes are good choices, but the heart wants what it wants)
SFF-wise: wibbly-wobbly time/time loops; alternate universes / how choices or luck changes the world; falling-apart spaceships that hold together because their people love them; aliens/fey/etc aren't evil but are meaningfully and interestingly not human in ways that impacts plot/characters/choices.
Gator Days boardgame/ttrpg comics frequently feel like they're calling out me specifically.
Took myself off to @imaginebelfast.bsky.social for the talk about missing arts attendance data (prefer not to say). Really interesting perspectives on why orgs/artists/funders come from different places, and who audiences trust with data. I could have had another hour of geeky data chat though.

"His job was to make sense of the world, and there were times when he wished that the world would meet him halfway."
🙃 really makes you wonder if they just read none of the reviews/chat. Because I'm pretty sure my youngest brother - who half-watched one episode with me - could write up a 5-point list of fixes for this show now just by having to listen to me infodump about team challenges and judging vibes.
Your usual no-fun reminder that alt text is not for jokes unless you are explicitly explaining a sight gag.
If someone who has never seen the color of Baja Blast opens your alt text on a photo of some pee that looks weird, calling it “a lab sample of Baja Blast” in the alt is royally confusing.

If only a college professor could condescendingly yell at her that AI is useful, I bet she’d feel so much better about all this

In a recent interview, Professor Karen Hoyland argued that women who claim to be autistic are just angling for a diagnosis, since researchers like her have made the prospect of autism so attractive.
Every time I think I've heard the worst of author events / terrible panel moderation, there is some fresh horror.
He had grown up in a country run by politicians who sent the pilots to man the bombers to kill the babies to make the world safe for children to grow up in.
