OH MY GOD I'M ABOUT TO FAINT, I'M REALLY SEEING HIGH RES ITALIAN RADAR DATA I CANNOT BELIEVE MY EYES!
Great news here as well! I'm not so sure how the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna data will do in this period as they're completely substituting the radars, so it could take a while to respond
Well, the Arpa Piemonte pages give me a 404 lol, but I trust you! That is FANTASTIC news! I guess I'll have to re-try to install your viewer if it's still doable
In the last three days we had a (super)cell a day, with the last one occurring around dawn this morning, all with 2+ cm hail and some kind of damage
Wait, there is Arpa Piemonte data in the viewer?!?
Yesterday we had the first (very) large hail event in north Italy, as a supercell descended from Como Lake into the Milan-Monza metroplex with hailstones up to 5-5.5 cm and producing damage to cars + 2 known injuries. Radar hail size estimation taken from meteologix.com
Weak tornado in Apulia yesterday, you can see plastic sheets getting tossed under the funnel and onto power lines. Points detracted to the guys in the vehicle for driving towards and basically into it. And there goes the chance of a tornado-less April for Italy
Little twister, big damage! Here's a crazy closeup look at the sheer power of tornados, even when they're only a few feet wide...

April 11th, 1965:
Palm Sunday tornado outbreak.
One of the worst tornado outbreaks in US history struck the Great Lakes region. Nearly four dozen tornadoes, 17 of which were rated F4, slammed numerous towns and cities, resulting in ~260 fatalities, and >3500 injuries.
The life and death of twin cyclones in the West Pacific.
A fascinating evolution and interaction.
One day I hope to have either a proper website for the historical tornadoes in Italy or even just a map like that one. But I don't want to give anyone false hopes, I'm already gaslighting myself on it LOL

April 5th, 1925:
An estimated F3 carved a 12-mile path through Dade County in southeast Florida. The estimated F3 damaged/destroyed a dairy farm, a restaurant, and about 50 homes. Five people were killed and 35 were injured. This event remains as Miami's worst tornado.
Interested in hurricanes? I want to introduce TC-ATLAS: the Tropical Cyclone Analysis Tool for Live and Archived Structure. Explore live or past storms without writing a line of code or downloading a data file, building on the capabilities of TC-RADAR: michaelfischerwx.github.io/TC-ATLAS/ind...
March 27th, 1890:
An extremely deadly outbreak of at least 24 tornadoes struck the Ohio & Mississippi River Valleys. Six were violent F4s, the worst of which destroyed hundreds of buildings in Louisville, Kentucky. At least 146 people were killed, and >800 were injured.
To my surprise, this evening I discovered that the Monopoli tornado from last Summer is well visible on Google Earth! This includes damaged greenhouses, broken tree limbs, debris scattered in fields and apparently some very minor ground scouring

March 18th, 1925:
The worst tornado in American history struck Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. Dubbed the "Tri-State Tornado," the estimated F5 had a path length of over 215 miles (debatable), was on the ground for ~3.5 hours, and had an estimated forward speed of over 60 mph.

March 16-17th, 1942:
A substantial and widespread outbreak of (at least) 25 tornadoes impacted the Midwest & Southern US. Seven were violent (F4+), the strongest of which was an estimated F5 that devastated Lacon, IL. 148 people were killed, and more than 1000 were injured.
Yesterday evening a tornado occurred in southern Sardinia, causing the first Italian tornado-related injury since June 25th 2024 www.unionesarda.it/news-sardegn...
Not even the most impressive view of it
And with this one just confirmed, Italy's 2025 tornado toll reaches the triple digits. 100 tornadoes in a single year
Bonus: now we have four out of five tornadoes of the cyclic supercell in Emilia-Romagna from March 15th found, rated and mapped
Finally a useful Google Earth update: forest "scar" of the Pedagaggi IF1 tornado from this past June 18th. With this satellite imagery update the path grows to a total of 2.8 km
