Really, 3/4, 6/8, 6/4, 12/8 and other meters like that are kind of interchangeable. The composer chooses the meter to emphasize the "feel" they want: 6/8 suggests a 2 beat march feel, think Sousa's "Washington Post"

It's not the best example because Superbowl performers often do it with 4 beat measures. "O / say (beat) can you / see (beat) (beat) by-the / dawn's (beat) ear ly/ light"

Oh no, the original score was in 6/4 so in fact it's a very bad example.

The rhythm in 6/8 is usually two beats subdivided into triplets (1-2-3, 4-5-6). "(for) / He's a Jolly good / fel-low"

In 3/4 it's a three beat rhythm, like a waltz or the Star Spangled Banner.
