As it stands when you try to whittle down a cost for creative work, which I already do mostly sliding scale, the line between you and my most exploitative bosses really starts to fade. So how is it that you get to be actively exploitative here, but fixing capitalism remains my problem exclusively?

I have a cousin that will text me like “hey wanna see a movie” and I’ll reply “sure when” and she’ll go “right now” and usually I’m like girl I am scheduled within an inch of my life I need advance notice but I don’t have a day job anymore so I said "on my way"

What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?” Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.” Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”

"They said they wouldn't pay me and would use AI instead if I didn't give them a lower price"
They're bluffing. They already tried AI and it didn't work so they're contacting you.
No one goes "I'll pay you or do the free one" they just do the free one, see that it's crap, and do the paid one.
Because people are realizing that "convenience" means paying a shitload of money to basically rent a movie or song you never own and everyone is tired of it. I'm not even a physical media stan and I think it's pretty obvious and makes all the sense in the world
We’re super excited to share our first two stretch goals for PiRATs! If we hit $12.5K, we can have an animated sequence and an original song play over our credits!
And at $13.5K, we can get some original artwork on our art book and soundtrack covers!

Exactly one year ago today:

THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF YOU
Universal basic income is not science fiction. It should exist for everyone. There's enough to make it happen.
So the big studios are abandoning the US and turning the staff workers into contractors to get out paying for healthcare.
The United States is losing one of its defining industries because of not having universal healthcare and the people are going to be even more vulnerable to the industry.
There should be something where you get money just for being alive on account of you need it to live
"Indie won't save animation--"
yeah yeah and neither will these mega corporations whose one and only idea for maximizing profits is slave labor so where does that leave us
Disney has always been very good at distracting from its terrible labor practices with ✨ Disney magic ✨
In 2003, US citizen Rachel Corrie was killed by Israeli soldiers using a US-provided bulldozer.
Her parents are calling on senators to vote yes today to block $295 million worth of these bulldozers to Israel. Join them by calling your senators TODAY:
Enjoy everything around you: your health, your friendships, your work, your time, your safety and everything. in this world, you can lose everything in a second.
UBI has proven it works. It gives someone the ability to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and peace of mind while searching for work.
"I want to support the artists" isn't even a valid reason to go to so-called blockbusters at the theater anymore. The studios don't even want to support the artists. The artists are just another roadblock between them and an optional fifth bathroom on the CEO's brand new yacht.
Big corps right now are kicking everyone who built the palace out even though it was their home, keeping the palace for themselves because of the mere fact the string of the purse is tied to their belt.
Yet they expect workers to be passionate, be family and feel ownership of the palace they build.
"I'm going to say this because there are some people who seem not to understand. What readers have is not the right to change the story of a work. What they have is the right to choose whether they will read it or not. If you don't like it, then just stop reading. If you have the talent to create something more interesting than Bleach, then you should immediately become a mangaka. If it's really more interesting, you will definitely have more success than Bleach. If you say you don't know how to draw, then work hard, become an editor, and give advice to mangaka. If you really have talent, you'll be welcome anywhere. But if you have no talent, don't make an effort, and still complain about those who give their best-if you're the kind of person who only gets in the way of those working hard-then go hide somewhere, keep your eyes closed, your mouth shut, and live off the rain and the dirt."

I hear people are just giving out $175k, and I’m happy to clear my schedule to accept that kind of cash
Webcomic artists should also be eligible for public arts grants.
