A comic. Emma is wearing a hospital gown in a nondescript white space. A voice says, “you’re so pretty.” She responds with irritation, “me? you must not have noticed my many flaws i'm actually large and awkward and lumpy and sweaty and i-” She is cut off mid-sentence by a corrective electric shock. “no,” says the voice. “i like your comics,” the voice says. Emma, who is still recovering from the shock, says without thinking, “you are so full of—“ before catching herself and amending to, “nnnice words,” but she can’t stop herself from adding, “but i genuinely can’t see my work as anything but trash and it makes me thĂnk less of you for liking—” She is cut off again by a shock. “no,” says the voice. The voice says, “you’re a good mom.” “Tha—“ says Emma, starting to contradict, before gritting her teeth and saying, “—ank you. That’s kind of you to say.” She holds her forced smile but flinches, anticipating another shock. Instead, the voice says, “you’re good at your job.” Emma, frustrated, yells, “what???” She quickly tries to add “a sweet thing to say,” but is cut off again by another shock.

It was a challenge to try to cram as much info about webcomic creation process into teeny tiny info panels.

You better really like drawing your main characters because you will have to draw them 900 billion times.
Made the mistake of writing... an asymmetrical arm situation to one of the main characters.
Now I need to constantly keep track of which arm is which.
Have had to re-layout a panel a couple of times because made a mistake while sketching. :"D

Also in the dayjob club. I get stressed out easily, so I think I wouldn't be able to handle freelancing / comics as my main source of income.
I work on my webcomic on the evenings and weekend mornings. My comic update schedule is REALLY slow to keep work load manageable (only 2 pages once a month).
People who make comics (or other freelance art work) as their fulltime job: how do you do it? How do you make it work, esp financially?
People who make comics on the side while having a fulltime day-job: how do you do it without overworking and/or burning out?

Drawing is fascinating because, no matter how clearly or vividly you can visualize the final artwork in your head, you never QUITE know how a piece will turn out until it’s finished. It adds an element of mystery to the process that’s kinda fun, but requires a lot of patience w yourself.

library thoughts before a school visit
Since this strip, I've decided to also start COLORING the new comics. I'm sure that decision is completely unrelated to the theme of this specific strip, though. (Whistles nonchalantly. Lol)

Narration: After much discussion, debating and tantrum throwing by one council member in particular (looking at you Sir Vance), it was decided to send a party in each year to "clean out" the shrines. Each spring a new team of sweepers would be sent into the shrine, some would return, and some would not. Those that returned, often did so with riches, stories and a severe case of PTSD that kept them out of the shrines for the rest of their lives-- That is except for the famed explorer--Cochran, who made many journeys into the shrine.
