I’m fuming. If the National Parks are America’s best idea then letting the guy who made the truck-that-doesn’t-stop and the subway-that-doesn’t-work decide where to cut corners might be the WORST.

Another word for "regulation" is...

"consumer protection"
"environmental protection"

"Regulation" means your milk is safe. "Regulation" means toys that harm your babies are removed from the shelves. "Regulation" means chemical companies can't dump waste in your river.

one thing Congressional Democrats could be doing is using the franking privilege to send mailers out to every constituent informing them that an unelected organization without Congressional oversight has control of their social security information (which is in fact legal for them to do)

Going down a rabbit hole now but this is a very simple graphic I found that shows a small change in design can have a big impact here.

It seems obvious, and it is, but I see a lot of bad streetlights in the wild.

I question Michael Bender's use of the words and phrases I have highlighted in the opening paragraphs of his article about J. D. Vance's comments. These strike me as normalizing euphemisms that distract from the dangerous content of the AfD's (and Vance's) far-right politics.

Dorsal view of Ommatocarcinus pulcher specimen. Photo by chekiangense_longpotamon.

It has eyestalks longer than the carapace width, and a pentagon shaped carapace. The claws and carapace have red dots. One leg is missing.

Goneplax rhomboides in the mud, photo by Emil @bergylta. There isn't an in situ photo of any Ommatocarcinus that I could find.

The angular crab is seen rearing up with its legs still buried. Long claws 2x the body are both outstretched in a threat display. The long eyestalks (a biy smaller than Ommatocarcinus) give it a funny rather than scary look.

O is for Ommatocarcinus.

What's up with this crab other than having extremely long eyestalks? It can make sounds, by rubbing a claw against its...face!?

Like the relative Goneplax, pic by @bergylta.bsky.social, they bury themselves in soft mud, waiting to meet friend or foe.

The greatest trick the devil pulled was convincing people they had more in common with politicians who show up twice a decade to ask for votes than their own neighbours who live with them every day

The coyote is resilience.

Art is a ritual. For me, drawing can be the act of invoking a feeling or a message, even imparting magic.

I was buried in some other work and then family stuff someone plz correct me if I’m being ungenerous that the Democratic Party elite just… didn’t “POUNCE” on the Emil Bove / Eric Adams scandal the way you’d expect a somewhat relevant opposition to do so

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

Billionaires only ever lip-service UBI, not just because their slaver capitalist mindset can't fathom not having desperate workers to exploit, but because they'd face real competition from real scrappy startups if everyone could work on their passion projects without the threat of becoming homeless

Think snow is tough on drivers? Imagine how it is on pedestrians, or transit users, navigating #OttCity unplowed sidewalks. Here are three testimonials from residents who experienced challenges with sidewalks / bus stops that didn't get plowed today (whereas most local roads got serviced). 1/

Correct. If the birthdate field contains corrupt or mismatched data, it defaults to 1875-05-20, which serves as a flag. May 20, 1875, is the day the international standards and metrics treaty was signed. Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works.

If Philomena Cunk was a bike advocate:

Riding a bike feels heroic, like you’re saving the world just by cranking your legs up and down. If everyone did it, I suppose we’d solve climate change, or at least keep our calves in excellent shape for the apocalypse.

I support normalizing this. Not only is this narcissistic machine a danger on our streets, its creator is an unhinged, psychotic threat to the world.

Time to physically push back.

NIH cuts billions of dollars in biomedical funding, effective immediately The move halts a large slice of money for most universities and research institutions virtually overnight, imperiling vital research in everything from cancer to heart disease.

Their aim is nothing short of a new Dark Ages. Anti-science, anti-education, anti-democracy, in favor of needless human suffering.

Congress was denied entry to both the U.S. Department of Education and the Treasury, where Musk staffers blocked the doors. Along with its appropriations responsibilities, Congress holds oversight authority over federal agencies. Blocking congressional access to these agencies is illegal.

If I were Canadian PM I would immediately:

1. Create a new $15B science fund

2. Offer any credentialed US scientist funding for lab startup and replacement of NIH grants if they move to Canada

3. Immediate permanent residency

4. Citizenship after 2 years

Overnight a science superpower

The Deadly Cost of Unplowed Sidewalks in Winter — Streetsblog USA A mother was killed and her toddler critically injured when an icy sidewalk forced them into the street — and into the path of a driver. Some say better policy could have prevented the tragedy.

Many cities refuse to treat sidewalks like critical transportation infrastructure, with deadly results.
