Life Under Israeli Occupation in Syria's Quneitra Over a year after the fall of Assad, foreign forces have pushed past the 1974 buffer zone, where residents describe raids, checkpoints and a fragile accommodation

“You come in military garb, holding a rifle, and talk about peace? Peace is when you put out your hand, and I put out mine, so we hold hands and walk,” Ghazi Othman told the Israeli officer.

Anagha Nair on Israeli actions in south Syria, for @newlinesmag.bsky.social.

I hate depictions of embarrassment. When I was a kid, I felt secondhand embarrassment so hard watching movies. So, as I'm drafting a scene where the MC is embarrassed, I just got distracted by the history of 1 word. I'm ready to jump down an etymological wormhole just to escape writing this scene.

In these dark times, I got to write a positive story for @msmagazine.com about how women impacted by incarceration are building new futures: msmagazine.com/2026/04/21/w...

Voters Ousted This Pennsylvania Sheriff After He Signed Up to Collaborate With ICE A populous swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

A Democrat who was elected sheriff in Pennsylvania last fall hopes others are watching: “It sends a message to elected public safety officials across the country that partnering with ICE is a loser in a district that’s remotely a swing district.”

A fun game to play with this administration is to simply reverse their statements to elicit the truth. (Hegseth: "We did start this war but under President Trump we're not finishing it") It works every time.

People Who Bike Are Subsidizing, Not Shirking, Street Costs The recently promoted misconception that cyclists don’t pay their fair share for street infrastructure is both false and misleading.

Bike riders pay for all of the infrastructure they use. No fees needed. Everyone pays property taxes and sales taxes. Cars don't even pay for half their own way.

Kosovo was the first time I realized that all the proclamations of “never again” were bullshit

Even so, the continued destruction of Palestine feels like a unique shock because so many people who claim to care about human rights are actually supportive of it

I’m sharing this video again because people don’t really get what these data centers and ai are doing to our planet and our communities. Especially Black communities because they were strategically placed there.

I need you to listen to these people.

It's not just Iran whose surrender is being demanded. It's yours. Your hope. Your belief in yourself and our collective potential. Your empathy. They want to crush those things. They want you to believe their will is inevitable.

They want you to surrender.

One of the upsides of refusal is that saying "no" to evil and screaming "fuck you, this is wrong, and I will push back any way I can" doesn't necessitate having all the answers.
