The conclusion I've come to is that many people just look at the superficial traits of these characters, and Chloe comes off very strong and angry despite being a softie underneath all her trauma. Rachel, on the other hand, seems nicer AND the narrative frames her shortcomings as excusable.

I think there is a lot to be said about the way Chloe Price is seen as toxic by so many players while Rachel Amber isn't, but I don't really have the time to really get into it rn.

Also, I felt like Half-Life made a good job at making me feel immersed and invested in moving forward. I had to flee, and the urgency felt real. In Half-Life 2, progressing just feels like going what the game is asking of me, instead of something *I'm* doing myself, if that makes sense?

Idk, progressing through Half-Life feels like something I was actively choosing to do. The levels and gameplay were engaging, and the urgency of having to flee felt real. Half-Life 2, for whatever reason, feels more boring to me in its design and gameplay. I don't know why, exactly.

This might be sacrilegious to say, but playing through Half-Life 2 feels like such a chore to me. I like the first game so much better.
