The Pentland Hills looking fantastic last weekend & just a wee bus ride from #Edinburgh city centre. Hills are Turnhouse & Carnethy & in trees below the peaks is site of Battle of Rullion Green (1666) 'tween Covenanters & government troops led by Tam Dalyell of The Binns.

Spot the 3 deer.

I'm delighted to be running a free writing workshop in York as part of the lovely @yiww.bsky.social lineup this year. I'm not one for scary writing workshops so this is a short and friendly burst of creativity and writing and finding out about often silenced amazing authors. Please do come along!

Making her Further From Festival debut, we'll be joined by @olgawojtas.bsky.social to discuss her Miss Blaine's Prefect series! It's a brilliant cosy crime series (with a bit of time travel!), and has been compared to PG Wodehouse,Jasper Fforde, and Blackadder! Tickets: tinyurl.com/FFFOlgaWojtas

Oh, we all know Reg is the official hottie in the Chalet School series (Joey's first born does, after all, memorably swoon into his arms) but Roger? If ever a book involved a swoonsome debut of a new hero to be, this is that book and Roger is that chap. A screenshot showing an old chair and on it, it says: "Everyone who ever sat on this chair is now dead. Play it safe and remain standing."

The caption reads: "best 'do not touch' museum sign ever?

Believe it or not, I have been sleeping better than anybody in our tent and have been reported to have said, "So you don't like Paul any more?" And to have sung in my sleep.

I’m busy baking cakes for tomorrow’s event at Cheadle Hulme library (3pm). This is the fruit cake Jack makes for Amélie when they’re snowed in and the recipe is in my book Christmas at the French Repair Shop.

Edwin Morgan
Aberdeen Train

Rubbing a glistening circle
on the steamed-up window I framed
a pheasant in a field of mist.
The sun was a great red thing somewhere low,
struggling with the milky scene. In the furrows
a piece of glass winked into life,
hypnotized the silly dandy; we
hooted past him with his head cocked,
contemplating a bottle-end,
and this was the last of October,
a Chinese moment in the Mearns.

All my books are standalone but some are connected by the fictional village of Willowbrook- including my latest book Christmas at the French Shop.
Do you recognise the village I drew inspiration from in real life? 📸

The food is very good. Each patrol takes it in turn to help Mrs Lovegrove cook it. We cooked spaggetti bolangeze & pie then for breakfast we had eggy bread.
