The text at the bottom says: Diorama ALTTP, breakdown Part 2. Environment modeling The image shows a grey 3D model with the wireframe
New breakdown post, this time focusing on a few things I did for the modeling! I wish I documented it more aaa

Videos of cute animals doing the perfect things at the perfect moments used to be rare and genuine fun cultural moments, now its all data-driven ai slop made to generate maximum internet engagement (engagement thats mostly bots…)
This is the original video www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEwa... (this channel has been posting marmot video for years, so *probably* not gen ai, no spacial incoherences)
If you compare it to that viral video where the left one reacts a lot more, is almost certains to me that the viral one is AI
Keep seing ppl sharing that marmot nail clipping video and it sad that ppl dont realize its AI
You really can’t believe anything anymore on the internet now

if you're annoyed with the overly heavy and ever so slow unity Hub, consider using this github.com/Ravbug/Unity...
ive been using it for a while and its great, opens instantly
This is an extremely good and salient thread about what types of stories in games (especially AAA) get told.
And I will say, unequivocally, our next game, Bitter Silver, is a mom game and deals with the protagonist's complex relationship with their mom.
i'm glad! Its difficult at first, but sooo rewarding when it finally works (and obviously no a single LLM used in the process)
I remember paying a while ago for one of these "youtube to mp3/mp4" software, I realize now they probably all use that same open source software
Im also getting how to use mp3 tag to set metadata, tweak filenames, etc...such a cool software
custom youtube to mp3 tool
took me forever (i suck at python) but ive made my own tool to download youtube videos (using "yt-dlp")
made it because I wanted a way to download convert a yt video with chapters, to unique mp3s...and it work!
feels good

we've been boycotting amazon for years now and its been easier thant we thought! they've rewired consumers' brain to believe that same-week delivery is normal..it's not
The only thing they'll ever react to is diminishing profits, stop using amazon by default, hit them in the wallet
fucking bleak
Amazon employee dies, the body is still warm but the work must go on
"the composition feels like it was assembled not designed." thats great I might steal that!
This thread was initially about PL, but its a general feeling I have about art direction and 3D Games
This makes me want to structure my thoughts and write a blog post about this haha...I have same observation about how the standardization of PBR negatively affected art direction of AAA games
Hot take: without actively fighting against unification of character design by humanoid rigging (and other tech constraints), you're bound to loose... The only tools are Art & Technical Art Direction
"Humanoid Art Direction Entropy"? 🤓
Character sprites from Professor Layton DS games
Now maybe I'm overthinking it, but I wonder if it was "easier" for AA in that their human npcs where still human looking
PL's npc were completely wacky, and the more 3D they got (starting with Miracle Mask), the more generic they got, most probably because technical constraint (humanoid rig)
Its interesting to compare it with Ace Attorney, which managed stick the landing when doing the switch to 3D
Even tho 2D sprites' charm is unbeatable, Capcom artists really worked hard to make the characters feels expressive and it worked

Professor Layton DS screenshot, showing a quaint european looking town 2D artwork. A big red house with a blue roof next to a river
Professor Layton DS character design, an character with a squarish head, and tiny arms. looks extremely stylized
Professor layton and the curious village key art, Luke and Layton are surronded by NOC with vastly different proportions and designs
A big part of PL charm to me is the colorful charming european-ish towns, and unique character design with crazy faces... I don't find it here
There are some glimpses of the old Layton charm in the new one but im really skeptical
(pics for DS layton games, check the NPC variety in the key art)
Professor Layton New world of steam key art
I loved (almost all) Layton games and was super excited at first, but I have 0 hype for the new one now
Even before we knew about level 5 using AI, Ive always found something to be off with it, and its still the case: the 3d models look off, a lot of the charm of the DS games is gone with the 3D🧵
the way the impostor syndrome hits me like a train when this happens (which is all the time because all my artist friends are a 10)
