We are outraged at the sudden and last minute delay of long awaited ADA Title II guidance requiring clear consistent digital access standards so disabled people can participate in civic life. How long should disabled students wait to access their Zoom classes? Or telehealth?

DLU recently submitted a public comment raising serious concerns about a new immigration rule that would speed up the appeals process and make it easier for immigration cases to be dismissed quickly, putting immigrants at risk of immediate deportation. Read more here: buff.ly/pPLL4pg

What You can do to Help Protect Yourself with Heightened ICE Enforcement at Airports: - Disable face ID/Fingerprints on your phone - Print out your boarding pass - Decline biometric scanning if you are a US citizen - Have an advanced plan with friends/family, ensure people know you are traveling and your likely timing/whereabouts - Take Steps to make your private chats more secure using apps like Signal
- Be aware that people picking you up and dropping you off may be subjected to questioning. - Have a quick info card you can keep on you when walking through the security scanner. Include phone numbers for emergency legal support. - Optional: Back up your phone to the cloud prior to travel. Then, delete social media, notes, and email apps from your mobile phone before entering the airport/ You can restore apps after travels.

ICE deported a 6-year-old child to Colombia last week — and REFUSED to let family members hand over the child's HEARING AIDS during detention, leaving this boy without language access during a traumatic experience.
This isn't an oversight. It's a disability rights violation.
The time tax for disabled people is real. As more people learn about the different ways their bodies and minds work, and what supports their thriving, we can do better as a society by making time. Time to be disabled. Time to be nondisabled. Time to be human.
The recent Medicaid cuts, which handed an unprecedented amount of wealth from the most vulnerable Americans to the richest, are forcing heartbreaking decisions for disabled people and their families.
U.S. Border Patrol dropped Nurul Amin Shah Alam - a Rohingya refugee & non-English speaker with very low vision - alone at a coffee shop miles from his home in Buffalo — and told no one, including his family or his attorney.
He was found dead five days later.
This is why we fight.
Hot take: The next decade can bring a flourishing of disabled power like the world has never seen - if we collectively choose to make it happen. As technology increases disabled engagement in public life, now is the time to fight for fair, inclusive technology infrastructure.
Whether someone's mind or body can produce any one outcome or be monetized for gain is not the measure of an individual. A society that treats its members as widgets to exploit or discard is weak in the only currency that matters; human flourishing.

Proud of our attorney Kate Thorstad, here laying out why disability and climate justice are interconnected and what we can do -
A disproportionate number of the people who died in the LA Fires a year ago were disabled. This didn’t have to happen. Governments are required to provide for the access needs of the disability community. We demand they keep that promise by suing them when they fail. Help support our work!
The presence of ICE officers in our cities is a threat to the safety of disabled and nondisabled people. Ms. Rahman's testimony is important to listen to
Happy thursday!
