I’ve been watching Chinese dramas and the kissing scenes are fraught with anticipation, long lingering looks, and hesitation. Then the kisses are very chaste but so sexy. I want that. Except maybe for the intense eye contact; my autistic self just could not do that.

Fringe on anything drives me nuts. It always gets tangled up, especially on rugs. On clothes it can feel like something is crawling on me. I cut it short or remove it if possible.

I only realized I was autistic in my 60s; every day I remember something from my life that suddenly makes sense. I knew before kindergarten, that I didn’t fit anywhere. I was labeled a genius because of my reading skills, but I had no understanding of social cues or how to navigate the world.

My aunt, who was a dancer in the Ziegfeld Follies, gave me a book of basic ballet for little girls, so I at least had the positions down by the time I went to ballet class.

I always thought I should have an arranged marriage because that’s not the sort of decision I should be allowed to make for myself.

My first dance lessons at 6 years old were hula. Our neighbor gave lessons in her garage. Later, I took ballet, then modern. After a serious back injury I had to quit lessons for a year, and I never really got back into it. And now I can’t dance because of arthritis in my knees.
