all the best windows software in history is called something like "joe's thing doer". it does the thing and nothing else and is available on a html website in plain text and takes up under a megabyte of space and uses default windows ui elements and will work until the heat death of the universe

Falling asleep with ear plugs did not lead to hearing less noise, it instead introduced me to the world of loud hypnagogic tones. The only way to describe it is sprites getting tangled up in huge bells.

Starting to get the sense that my brain was not built for relaxing experiences.

At one point I binged all of season 4 of The Good Place while crying AND doing a Pikachu nonogram and that’s just what July’s gonna be like this year.

This is the more serious nonogram game for playing in the other room.

I’m at the “doing so many nonograms you dream in nonograms and also buy the cute detective nonograms game” stage of grief.

I got 3 pages of these gorgeous stamps, roughly a lifetime supply if I write 1 meaningful letter per year?

Museum exhibit about Clara Rockmore. The display includes a screen showing a video of Rockmore playing the theremin, a colorful floral-patterned performance dress on a mannequin, a large speaker, and an original theremin instrument in a glass case. Informational panels and photographs provide historical context. Visitors are visible in the background.

Finally face-to-face with Clara Rockmore’s theremin 😭⚡️

I’m a huge fan of Stanley Parable and Beginner’s Guide, but I was a little worried this would satirize the cozy genre. But I think it sits firmly within the genre while also questioning some management game tropes (optimization, grinding) to create something TRULY cozy, healing and meaningful.

This was not only a beautiful and perfectly crafted game, it was profoundly helpful for my debilitating burnout. An unexpected side effect is it’s also been helping with grief just as much as Spiritfarer. It’s so damn good and moving I had to write this during the credit sequence.

This was the coolest and most engaging game I played this year so far! The decisions felt so real and important. The VO was beautiful and I loved the overall arc and the epilogue. Incredible experience, 100 stars.

ANYWAY, did you know there's an extension you can put on Chrome that will connect with your local library system and when you go look at a book, say on AMZ, it will tell you if that book exists in the library system and if it's available?

It's literally called Library Extension.

I stole this from Oliver Burkeman, but I reframed my to-do list as a casual “menu” of possible activities to choose from, and now my rate of doing stuff feels more normal. It’s probably less than normal, but it FEELS normal.

Readings - Civil Resistance How It Works Fall 2022.pdf

I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...

Yellow paint is lazy. Ideal
level design is to have a barbershop quartet at every exit singing about which way the player should go. But people don’t take the effort to compose original songs like “Lovely Night To Climb A Ladder”

Two young characters sitting on a bench in the rain, surrounded by glowing butterflies. The boy wears a blue sweater with yellow stripes, while the girl is dressed in a pink shirt and blue overalls. The background features an urban setting with yellow vehicles, street signs, and soft lighting. Despite the rain, they appear calm and content. The text “Until Then” is displayed at the bottom.

Stayed up until 3 AM finishing Until Then and it’s an absolute masterpiece. Check it out on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1574820/Until_Then/

And extreme shoutout to @untilthengame.com for creating something so incredible 😭

you already know what's up

(game sale rec thread is what's up)

as always for my rec threads, i focus primarily on obscure, older, and just plain weirder games, as big name titles don't need the help.

so, onwards!
