Necessary for the ramp-up of #largescale heat pumps: 1) clear expansion path based on municipal heat planning, 2) reduction of price disadvantages compared to fossil fuels, 3) expansion of supply, e.g. through #standardisation of production processes. 4/5
#Largescale heat pumps are available on the market and production can be ramped up quickly. The technology can provide the necessary temperatures for #districtheating (90-110°) & #industry (up to 200°). Currently, their share of #heat generation is still negligible. 3/5
Hight-potential heat sources: near-surface & deep geothermal energy, lake & river water and industrial waste heat. Heat pumps could provide about 1,500 TWh/year of heat output from this supply: This significantly exceeds demand for temperatures up to 200° of 1,000 TWh/year. 2/5
CO₂-free heat sources can cover DE's entire #heat demand for temperatures up to 200°C. #Largescale-heat pumps utilise this potential for district heating & industry. Our study provides an overview of the market status & criteria for the large-scale heat pump roll-out. 1/5
