Always struck how, when war memorials give the regiment or service of people from both world wars, you can see the differences between the wars. Here the First World War dead are all from the infantry or artillery but in the Second there are far fewer killed, and 2 of 3 were in the Royal Air Force.

Can’t believe the most corrupt man in Labour politics happened to be the most corrupt man in Labour politics.
Finally got round to seeing Austentatious live. Utterly fantastic, so well done, and had the entire audience in stitches. Highly recommend to anyone in London.

How does a chap go about getting the IWM to publish a buyable print run of the series? Asking for a friend...
That series is just non-stop bangers. A short thread:
Another one I love:
Poster describing the 'Downfall of the Dictators is Assured'. From Imperial War Musuem collection.
I know I've posted this before but I fucking love this poster.
Need to get a print framed and put up on the wall.
British politics are in a depressing state and anybody who feels gleeful about recent events, perhaps because they enjoy the excitement of seeing the world burn, or because they dislike one of the people involved, is a short-sighted moron.
It was an official Ministry of Information poster, and the artist was English, afaik.
May have been designed for a variety of audiences, not all of them who would have been particularly fond of the 'royal' denomination.
Allyness saves lives.

Also...
Watched from a far, the Mandelson affair really looks like both a fundamental f'up in the system reflecting very badly on the system around the PM, and an enormous distraction from the real-world problems facing the UK while so much in the world is burning.

Also if you believe AI is going to take both white collar and manual jobs then what is the point of education and reskilling? Reskilled as what exactly?
This is what drives me nuts about these predictions. 'Your job will disappear so start preparing now!'
How? If the jobs and skills are going to be obsolete, how exactly are you supposed to prepare for it?
Its a meaningless statement aimed only as a pretence of empathy.
This is ofc very encouraging to hear.
But I doubt that Russia's war effort is going to collapse any time soon (I dearly hope to be proven wrong).
Nations are resilient. In the Great War, Germany was essentially starving from late 1916 onwards and kept fighting for another two years.
Exclusive: Sweden has intelligence indicating Russia's systematically manipulating data to fool Ukraine’s western allies into believing its economy has withstood the strain of its war spending & western sanctions, Thomas Nilsson, head of Sweden Military Intelligence, told me & @maxseddon.bsky.social
Do read this. There are some shocking stories and really worrying statistics on anti-semitism in the UK.
The finding that, according to one survey, a fifth of students would not want to share a house with a Jewish student is terrifying.

As somebody who was recently kept safe in Kyiv thanks to Ukrainian air defence, I highly recommend you donate.
Two nights ago, Russia sent nearly 700 drones and dozens of missiles at Ukrainian civilians. In the fifth year of the war, aerial attacks on Ukrainian civilians have become even more intense and more frequent. Please join me in this campaign for air defense equipment. You can help protect lives.
Kudos to the crews, but not something to be celebrated.
Normalising six month+ patrols is not good for either national security nor for the submariners who man the deterrent.

I wrote this at the start of the year.
Nothing has changed in the UK, and the security situation has steadily gotten worse.
For fucks sake.
Anyone with half a brain who had done some cursory research would have guessed that Mandelson would have failed DV due to his history, regardless of the Epstein developments.
This show of being angry at the FCDO does not deflect from the stupidity of the appointment made by No. 10.
