CF cards with the EN2232T AC chip are compatible with the original iPod and come in 128GB models. They are fully compatible with FireWire, iTunes, and the iPod firmware. The only problem is the chip is VERY slow to sync but plays music perfect!

I'm working on a custom SSD fix that though!

Most attempts to flash mod these iPods came down to using a CF camera card as a drive, but the iPods never read them because they expect drives that use an older IDE mode.

I tested more CF cards than I'd like to admit to the Amazon returns lady, but I finally found one with a compatible chip!

it started out as a fun little part of my collection, but I've acquired a hyper-fixation on my 5GB Original iPod from 2001.

The stock spinning disk drive was dead on arrival, and after much googling, It seems there are no solid state replacements compatible with the 1st iPod. Until Now..
