When Kittens Turn Bad!

You can play it in your browser or on your phone over here: majestic-rolypoly-b662d2.netlify.app I remember guy from my army service who found it to be the perfect hangover game.

It used my custom assembly MMX blitter for rotozooming and shadows.

This blew my mind! Got Claude Code to take the exe file of an old game of mine & made it into a runnable web version literally in 5 minutes! Getting all details right did then take another 2 hours though. Another game from when I was 17. When Kittens Turn Bad.

I had Claude Code port my old c++ game I did when I was 17 (back in 2001) to the web. I had the source but not all assets, but claude extracted the missing pieces from the exe-file. Amazed at how it got it done, and accurately (with very little guiding)

Forgot to post this video. Here's how I build stuff in my game. Shows the whole flow and editor. It works all super well! And of course my daughter wanted a castle in the game, so why not a pink one! #indiedev #gamedev #madewithunity #unity3d

No drowing happens here 😄 it’ll show the same scene transition animation while playing a ”game over”-sound and you get to try again. And yeah scope creep is terrible when you wanna ship something (that will be free and not meant to generate any income).

Thanks! ❤️ I've had a blast world building, but getting actual game content takes time. We'll see how it goes!

oh that's interesting how it has such an effect on you, as this is a kids game I put a mercy timer logic there, so at the moment you get one extra "invisible" second.

It dies a brutal death when the brain & body gets no more oxygen! ... no, just quick fade to black and you get to try again. Almost died when I recorded the video xD

And thanks for watching and commenting! ❤️ oddly valuable to get human feedback on ones work!

Father & daughter gamedev update! Added a pearl fishing mini-game. Dive, open clams and search for pearls before your air runs out.

Gotta say I'm feeling the scope getting out of hands. I'd like to get this more or less done this month, so I can move on to new indie games. #gamedev #indiedev

Getting fences to work in this 3d paper-mario like world was tricky. Tried a couple things but ended up with only fence poles + a fence editor. Works well! #gamedev #indiedev

Here's an example of the "find the lost dog" example.

And then I've also added localization, I can now easily add new languages. So that's super cool! And I added a settings dialog + settings for parents (how hard are the math problems as an example). #madewithunity

I also added a minigame framework, so I can more easily add new minigames to this world. The thinking is that while some quests are only to be played once, the minigames gives repeat playability. #gamedev

Father & Daughter game update! I've been working out new systems to make a cool world into a fun game.

I added a Quest system so I we get things to do in the world. It's quite capable and consists of it's own little scripting language. #indiedev #indiegame

Claude code in the terminal.

Claude code in the terminal.

This is really what it means to "not code" anymore. I could modify the value in code, but as I'm already in the terminal with Claude, I might as well stay there. #vibecoding #claude #ClaudeCode

Thanks! Well my daughter’s 8, so her role is to draw the animals that go into the game, and it’s based on her fantasy world. And she tell me what she likes and don’t like. Kids have honest and brutal criticism 😅

I do the rest 😊

Friday father & daughter game update. Today I got a super cool water shader working, quite happy how water looks now! Also added intractable elements, like signs and other animals to talk to. Not too bad for one day's work! #indiedev #gamedev

You need to make your replies a little bit less AI sounding ❤️

Father & Daughter game update. Added an improved "rounded earth"-effect. Love it! Had some rendering issues where my real coding experience mattered (opposed to vibe coding). Added music & a run-sound. And my kids' school, simplified & stylized to fit the game. #indiedev #gamedev

Gotten a bit obsessed with this. Been so much fun! I changed the perspective now, does feel cooler and my daughter preferred it (Although she was unsure with the fog). But the scope is growing, this was supposed to be a quick small dad & daughter game 😅 #indiedev #gamedev

And here's where I'm at now after having worked in Unity for about a week! Super happy with the progress. But far from a game at this point still. #indiedev #gamedev

Since then I started working in getting these animals into a game. Here's a furry version, animated and running around. Hadn't done any skinning and rigging in unity before. Super easy and super cool! #gamedev

Couple weeks old tweet: Took my daughter's drawing & might turn it into a game with her. It's her fantasy world called the Titi World. This took one evening! titiworld.com #aigamedev

I'd love a way to post automatically here when I tweet. If anyone got a good solution? Let me know! But for now let me show some of the stuff I've done the last couple of weeks.

Open-sourced my new native macOS app to interface with Gemini & GPT Image quickly and conveniently! Needs a Replicate API token for now. Check it out at: atmanforge.com - I thought it turned out pretty nice! I'll be using it, hope someone else finds it useful too! ❤️ #aigamedev

Cloud Application Platform | Render On Render, you can build, deploy, and scale your apps with unparalleled ease – from your first user to your billionth.

I've been using render.com a bit for my projects, but it's not cheap, it's not fast. Thanks to Claude Code it's very easy to setup a VPS with git actions to deploy, and it's soo much faster to deploy new builds and also cheaper.

Super cool AI use case: Take a picture of yourself, use Gemeni to make a T-pose, then use Hunyuan 3d to create a 3d model, and then animate it with Mixamo. Take the animated model, create a Three.js website out of it. And why not a Suno bg track. Result: kaleidoscopic-pithivier-3f5cae.netlify.app
